Loteria Nacional Extra stages 'extraordinary' raffle draws (sorteos extraordinarios) nearly every month. With prize pools that can reach as high as €140 million, the Loteria Nacional Extra ranks among the biggest lotteries anywhere and attracts players not only from Spain, but from all over the world!

Loteria Nacional Extra raffle tickets are sold with predetermined codes - players do not select numbers as in a traditional lottery game. The number of available codes is determined by the rules of the draw. Tickets are printed in a certain number of copies, designated by a “series” number, and are further divided into ten shares for individual purchase.

Players can purchase shares in Loteria Nacional Extra tickets with a better than 1 in 3 chance of matching more than 35,000 winning combinations.

On many occasions, a premio especial is announced for a Loteria Nacional Extra draw. This premio especial is a jackpot prize that could be either €5 million, €15 million, or €20 million, depending on the size of the total prize pool. To win the premio especial top prize, ticket holders must have a specific share in a specific series of the first prize winning ticket.

Recent Loteria Nacional Draws

  • The first draw of January 2016 was dedicated to Alexis Hubert Jailot’s artwork – The Neptune Francois (or atlas of the new nautical map), from 1693. The piece was carved in stone following the demand of the King to allow his army to use it. The map depicts the exact picture of the ocean and Baltic coasts from Norway to Gibraltar and is part of the collection of the Biblioteca Nacional de España library in Madrid.

  • The second draw of January 2016 was dedicated to the Center for Minimally Invasive Surgery in Cáceres, Spain, as part of the Service of Research and Training in Biomedicine.

  • February 2016 draw was dedicated to Saint Valentine's Day, celebrated worldwide on February 14th, one day after this month’s draw! Historically, Saint Valentine of Rome helped soldiers who were forbidden from getting married by the Roman Empire, to marry their loved ones. Since the Middle Ages, the day marks the celebration of romance and love.

  • March 2016 draw was dedicated to Día del Padre, or Father's day. The day celebrates fathers and fatherhood and takes place in Spain on the feast day of Saint Joseph, on March 19th.

  • April 2016 draw was decicated to the Asociación Española Contra el Cáncer, or the Spanish Association of Fighting Cancer.

  • May 2016 draw was dedicated to "Cruz Roja" or the Red Cross humanitarian organization, founded in 1863 in Geneva. The Red Cross has over 97 million volunteers worldwide and its main goals are to protect life, to ensure respect for all, and to prevent human suffering.

  • June 2016 draw was dedicated to the Iglesia de Santa María la Real, or the Church of Santa Maria la Real, in Sangüesa, Spain, built in the 16th century. The church was declared a cultural heritage center and holds many art exhibitions, celebrating Spanish culture.

  • July 2016 first raffle was in celebration of the European summer vacation, and was also named as such - Sorteo Extraordinario de Vacaciones. This year's July Loteria Nacional offered a huge jackpot of €20 million (premio especial), as well as €120 million in secondary prizes.

  • July 2016 second draw, which took place July 9th, offered €84 million in prizes.

  • August 2016 draw was dedicated to Carreras de Caballos de Sanlúcar, an annual beach horse-race event in Sanlúcar de Barrameda, Andalusia. The race dates back to the year in which the town was formed - 1845 - and covers a 1800 meters stretch of beach. The dates of the 2016 event are August 12-14 and 26-28.

  • September 2016 ticket was dedicated to the Service of Religious Assistance of the Armed Forces (SARFAS). Formed in 1990, the service operates under the Military Archbishop of Spain, as part of the Roman Catholic Church, and offers religious services to Spanish soldiers and their families.

  • October 2016 ticket was dedicated to MICOF; Muy Ilustre Colegio Oficial de Farmacéuticos de Valencia or the Official College of Pharmacology of Valencia, Spain. The school had celebrated its 575th anniversary, after having been formed on March 20, 1441 by Queen Doña María de Aragón of Sicily. Given its long history, MICOF is considered the oldest pharmaceutical college in the world.

  • November 2016 ticket was dedicated to Teatro Real, a major opera house in Madrid, Spain. Teatro Real is celebrating its 200th anniversary of its establishment, as well as its 20th anniversary of the reopening in the late 90’s. Teatro Real is considered one of the biggest theatres in Europe and features some of the world’s greatest composers, singers, producers, directors and actors.

  • The first draw of January 2017, the Sorteo Extraordinario de Invierno, featured the portrait of King Carlos the 3rd of Spain, painted by Antonio Rafael Megs in 1761. King Carlos the 3rd is remembered for his attempts to save the Spanish Empire from falling, by enforcing significant reforms such as weakening the Church, promoting university research and science and avoiding war. His reign lasted from 1759 to 1788 and included the conquest of the kingdoms of Naples and Sicily.

  • The second draw of January 2017, Sorteo Especial de Enero, was dedicated to TVE, Televisión Española, Spain’s public television broadcasting service. TVE has a Parliament appointed general manager and is responsible for national service radio and television. During January 2017 TVE has celebrated its 60th anniversary.

  • February 2017 draw, the Sorteo Extraordinario de San Valentín, was dedicated to Saint Valentine's Day, celebrated worldwide on February 14th. Historically, Saint Valentine of Rome helped soldiers who were forbidden from getting married by the Roman Empire, to marry their loved ones. For the last 16 centuries the day marks the celebration of romance and love.

The Loteria Nacional Extra raffle awards incredible prizes to players in Spain and all over the world. The raffle is staged nearly every month with prize pools that can reach as high as €140 million. Players can purchase shares in tickets with a better than 1 in 3 chance of matching more than 35,000 winning combinations.

Winning combinations are based on the five digit codes assigned to each ticket. One tenth of a ticket's prize is awarded to each of its ten shares.
