The Complete Guide to the EuroMillions Superdraw

What is a EuroMillions Superdraw?

The EuroMillions Superdraw is a special lottery event staged from time to time that guarantees a massive jackpot. It replaces the regularly scheduled EuroMillions lottery and offers a boosted guaranteed jackpot prize.

A Superdraw can be announced at any time, usually to coincide with a special event. The starting jackpot of a Superdraw lottery is at least an incredible €130 million. This is much more than the usual EuroMillions base jackpot, making the Superdraw a draw not to be missed!

The EuroMillions Superdraw jackpots are made possible by contributions from the dedicated Reserve Fund of the pan-European lottery. At every regular EuroMillions draw, 8.6% of the generated income is deposited in a Common Prize Fund and this money accumulates until it is used to guarantee a Superdraw jackpot.

EuroMillions Superdraw FAQ

Confused about the EuroMillions Superdraw? Don't be! We have answers to your frequently asked questions!

How do you join the next EuroMillions Superdraw?

The EuroMillions Superdraw operates according to the same rules as the regular EuroMillions lottery. To participate, all you have to do is select five main numbers (1-50), and two Lucky Stars (1-12).

What is the difference between EuroMillions and the EuroMillions Superdraw?

The EuroMillions Superdraw is a special drawing that replaces the regular EuroMillions drawing. While the opening jackpot for the regular EuroMillions is €17 million, the opening Superdraw jackpot is at least €130 million. In both cases, the EuroMillions jackpot cap is €250 million. For more information about the regular lottery draw, see our EuroMillions Guide.

What are your odds of winning the EuroMillions Superdraw jackpot?

Your chances of winning the boosted Superdraw jackpot are the exact same as winning a regular EuroMillions jackpot prize - 1:139,838,160. On the other hand, the odds of taking home the entire jackpot prize will most probably be slimmed down thanks to the increased number of players buying tickets.

What happens if the Superdraw jackpot is not won?

If the Superdraw is not won, the jackpot prize will roll over to the next EuroMillions drawing. It will keep rolling over until the jackpot is won, or until it reaches the EuroMillions Superdraw jackpot cap of €250 million. The jackpot can remain at that amount for four drawings. After this, if the jackpot is not won, the prize money will be divided among the winners of the next highest prize tier.

How often are EuroMillions Superdraws held?

There is no guaranteed number of Superdraws. However, you can usually expect 2-4 EuroMillions Superdraws per year.

When will the next EuroMillions Superdraw take place? How long before the draw is a Superdraw announced?

The date of the next EuroMillions Superdraw is unknown until the news is released, which is usually a few weeks before the draw is scheduled to take place.

EuroMillions Superdraw History

2007 - The EuroMillions Superdraw was introduced on 9 February 2007. The first draw had nine participating countries - France, Spain, United Kingdom, Austria, Belgium, Ireland, Luxembourg, Portugal, and Switzerland. The boosted starting jackpot of €100 million was won in its entirety by a single player from Belgium.

2014 - The Superdraw jackpot offered on 3 October 2014 rolled over six times and was the first EuroMillions jackpot to ever reach the €190 million cap. It was won on 24th October by a single ticket purchased in Portugal.

2016 - The first EuroMillions Superdraw of 2016 took place on 30 September and introduced an increased starting jackpot of €130 million (instead of €100 million) and a change to the game format (12 Lucky Stars instead of 11).

2020 - Four EuroMillions Superdraws were staged in 2020. The last draw of the year was held on 20 November 2020 and reached EuroMillions’ new €200 million jackpot cap before it was won by a single player from France on 11 December 2020. This win meant that the next maximum jackpot would be increased to 210 million.

2021 - The EuroMillions Superdraw on 5 February 2021 broke all European records when the boosted jackpot reached the lottery's €210 million cap on 26 February 2021. Just a few months later, in a Superdraw series that started on 24 September 2021 and culminated with a jackpot win on 15 October 2021, EuroMillions set a new record. A single ticket captured the entire €220 million jackpot, and as a result, the jackpot cap was boosted to €230 million.

2022 - On 4 February 2022, EuroMillions offered a boosted jackpot of €130 million that was matched in the first draw by a single player from the UK.
