Portugal’s Totoloto lottery game launched on 30 March 1985 with a single draw per week and a 6/45 guess range. The very first Totoloto jackpot was won by by a Lisbon couple and an anonymous player from Seia.
In 1988 the game changed to a 6/47 play format, which was again changed in 1990 to a 6/49 format.
Almost a decade later, the Portuguese lottery decided to introduce a second weekly draw starting 3 March 1997.
As of 13 March 2011, Portugal Totoloto changes the game matrix to a 5/49 + 1/13 guess range, making it approx. 1.8 times more difficult to win when compared to the game’s previous format.
In 2015, the Totoloto jackpot reached a record high of €19 million before being won on 28 October.
