Estonia - Vikinglotto Information

Estonia's Vikinglotto combines a traditional lottery structure with a great cost-benefit ratio that produces frequent winners in Europe's original transnational lottery.

Vikinglotto History

Created in 1993, the Vikinglotto joined the smaller national lotteries in Norway, Finland, Denmark, Iceland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Sweden to create a unified lottery with a bigger jackpot and wider participation.

In 2004 seven of the eight participating countries (Sweden did not join) added the lucky number feature. It is basically an addition to the regular jackpot, that is won when the lucky number appears in the six winning numbers of the draw. It can grow the jackpot by millions and makes the draw more exciting!

In game changes introduced in May 2017, Vikinglotto removed the Lucky Number feature and introduced the Viking Number, an extra number players choose (and which players must match, in addition to the 6 main numbers, to win the jackpot). A jackpot cap was set at €35 million. The official name of the lottery was changed to Vikinglotto. Slovenia joined Vikinglotto in 2017, becoming the first country outside northern Europe to offer the game.

Proceeds from the Vikinglotto are distributed and donated in local communities by each of the nine participating countries. Denmark puts most of its proceeds towards sporting associations and non-profits, including the Danish Organization for Disabled Persons. Finnish officials are known for allocating money towards science, the arts and youth activities.

Vikinglotto Rules

To play Vikinglotto, players choose six numbers from a guess range of 1-48 and an additional Viking number from a guess range of 1-8. A player who matches all six main numbers and the Viking number in the draw will win the Vikinglotto jackpot. On our website you can choose to play standard one-time entries or select a systematic form which covers every combination of your selected numbers to increase your chance of winning a prize. Improve your odds of winning with group play by buying shares in a Vikinglotto syndicate. Combine your personal and group entries and enjoy a better price when you purchase a Vikinglotto bundle.

When selecting numbers, players can choose to use their pre-selected numbers saved on (My Numbers), the random number generator (Quick Pick) or can manually select their numbers (Natural Selection). Subscription and Multi-Draw packages ensure that players never miss a draw and enjoy great discounts exclusively at theLotter.

The Vikinglotto jackpot cap is set at €35 million. If there are no winners of that prize, any additional funds from ticket sales roll down to the second prize tier, which also has a cap of €35 million. According to Vikinglotto rules, the second-tier prize can never be higher than the jackpot, so it is also capped at €35 million. If there is no second division prize winner, any additional funds from ticket sales roll down to winners in the next prize tier.

Vikinglotto draws take place at Norsk Tipping in Hamar, Norway on Wednesdays at 19:00 GMT. Vikinglotto results are broadcast on live television in Scandinavia and are available on theLotter the same day.
