Sweden - Lotto Information

The Sweden Lotto is one of the only lotteries in the world that offers player four bonus balls as well as two sets of drawn numbers to improve players’ chances of taking home the jackpot, making this lottery a Scandinavian favourite for more than a century.

Swedish Lotto History

The modern day Sweden Lotto came from a historical culmination of Swedish lotteries that eventually produced the lottery as it is played today. In 1896, the first official Swedish lottery, known as the ‘Lotteriexpeditionen,’ was introduced and later had its name changed to ‘Penninglotteriet,’ the following year. While the Swedish Lotto was always under the ownership of the Swedish State, the lottery switched officiating hands several times until, in 1943, Ltd. Tipstjanst was opened by the state itself with the express purpose of officiating over lotteries as well as other games. The Ltd. Tipstjanst company, joined forces with the ‘Svenska Spel’ Company in 1980 and reopened an official Swedish Lotto.

Swedish Lotto Rules

The lottery is played by choosing seven numbers from a guess range of 1-35. The bonus balls are not selected by the players, but rather during the draw, and are required to win the second prize only. Two different sets of winning numbers are called in each drawing occasion to increase players’ chances of winning.

Winning the Swedish Lotto

To win the Swedish Lotto, a player must match the seven regular numbers drawn, regardless of the bonus numbers. The Swedish Lotto is a tax-free lottery, and winners are always paid out in cash.
To date, the Swedish Lottery had turned countless players into winners, and the largest jackpot won was SEK237 million in 2013, followed up by a SEK214 million jackpot claimed in Helsingborg on March 2010. Lotto's third largest prize on SEK208 was snapped up in May 2018.

Players who enjoy the Swedish Lotto’s attractive, tax-free European prizes may also want to try their hand with EuroMillions or buy lottery tickets online for EuroJackpot.
