Oregon - Megabucks Information

The Oregon Megabucks lottery helps its patron state fund a wide variety of interesting organisations and initiatives, while offering players competitive winning odds and impressive jackpots.

Oregon Megabucks Lotto History

The Oregon Lottery was created in 1984 in the midst of a severe recession and as part of efforts to jump-start the economy by raising money for depleted governmental funds.

From 1985 to 1995, the Oregon Lottery proceeds were directed towards economic development and job creation. In May 1995, Oregon voters determined that the proceeds should be used to finance public education, marking the beginning of the Education Endowment Fund which would receive 15% of the lottery proceeds. In 2002, voters increased the amount of lottery proceeds allocated to the Education Endowment Fund to 18% and renamed the fund the “Education Stability Fund".

Furthering efforts to put lottery funds to good use, in 1998 voters passed a Constitutional Amendment requiring that 15% of the proceeds be used towards protecting natural resources, 7.5% to state parks and 7.5% to watershed conservation and salmon habitats.
