The New York Lotto offers five prize categories, and to win the lottery jackpot, players must successfully match six numbers from a guess range of 1-59. The NY Lotto  bonus number is chosen during from the same drum and is counted for secondary prizes only.

New York Lotto History

The lotteries of New York have been in operation since the end of the 19th century, and the state has used proceeds to build government structures and landmarks, aid in subsidizing educational programs and even fund sporting events. In 1966, New York's state government created the New York Lottery organisation to oversee and run the state’s different lotteries.

In November 1978, the New York Lottery organisation introduced the New York Lotto to help bring in revenue for educational programs. Owing to players’ enthusiasm for the lottery, officials decided to add a Wednesday draw to the regular Saturday drawing in 1983.
