Israel - Double Lotto Information

Israel's Double Lotto has created thousands of big winners and offers odds that promise one in every 18 tickets will receive a prize.

Israel Double Lotto History

Israel Double Lotto is the newest addition to the Israel National Lottery (Mifal Hapayis) system. While Mifal Hapayis was created in 1950, Double Lotto only held its first draw in 2008. The lottery was created to offer lottery fans the country’s biggest lottery prizes. Proceeds from the Double Lotto benefit hospital services and education in Israel. In December 2009, one couple won the largest Double Lotto jackpot to date, NIS 74 million ($19.7 million).

Double Lotto Rules

To play the Double Lotto, select 6/37 main numbers and 1 additional number, called the chazak number, between 1 and 7. The additional number is drawn from a separate drum and must be correctly matched in order to claim the jackpot as well as 3 of the 7 secondary prize categories.

Compare these rules with 90+ international lotteries via our Lottery Results page.

Winning the Double Lotto

Players must match 6 out of 37 main numbers and the additional number to win the jackpot prize. Players who match smaller combinations of the winning main numbers and additional number can win one of the lottery’s seven secondary prize categories.

Double Lotto jackpots are a set NIS 8 million ($2.2 million) and are paid in a cash, lump sum payment. Jackpot prizes in Israel are subject to a 25% tax. Double Lotto offers exceptional winning odds with 1 in 18.8 tickets winning a prize.

Historical wins include NIS 74 million ($19.7 million), in December 2009; NIS 52 million ($14.2 million) in January 2018; NIS 50 million ($13.87 million) in July 2014; NIS 42 million ($11.2 million) in November 2010.

Double Lotto Anecdote

Lightning Strikes Twice - On October 16, 2010, Double Lotto officials randomly selected the main numbers 36, 33, 32, 26, 14, 13 and additional number 2 in the draw. Less than a month earlier, on September 21, these same main numbers had been drawn, in reverse order. The additional number, however, had been different. What did this mean? Anyone who had played the same set of lucky numbers in both draws won at least the second prize twice. After careful inspection by lottery officials and statisticians, the lottery ruled that the results were valid and that the lottery had beaten 4 trillion to 1 odds of drawing the same number combination twice.
