The US Powerball lottery is changing its rules this autumn. The odds to win the Powerball jackpot will go down slightly, but the great news is that this will result in truly enormous Powerball jackpots!

The other good news about the change is that the Powerball will produce significantly more winners across all prize categories.

1. Future Powerball Jackpots will be Enormous

The Powerball rule changes in October will result in fewer jackpot winners, but when the jackpot is scooped up it is likely to be much, much larger than it is today.

The internet is abuzz with expectation. Will the Powerball finally break through that magical glass ceiling and have someone win over $1 billion? That would be a momentous development!

2. Increased Overall Odds to Win Powerball Prizes

The Powerball rule changes are intended to boost players’ odds of winning secondary Powerball prizes.

Powerball odds are improving drastically indeed... You currently have a 1 in 32 chance to win anything at all. That likelihood is going to improve!

From 7 October you'll have a 1 in 25 chance to win a prize in the Powerball lottery!

3. Powerball’s Third Prize Goes Up

The third prize category of the US Powerball lottery is currently $10,000, but after the introduction of the new set of rules, the pan-state American lotto giant will offer a very decent $50,000 to winners in that category.

With countless past winners in this category and indeed other prize categories, you'd be well-placed to win $50,000 in the US Powerball when playing Powerball online through ticket messenger services like theLotter.

4. The Power Play Gets More Powerful

The third prize division isn't the only secondary prize division to be affected by the new rules. The Power Play, the optional secondary prize multiplier, will become more powerful!

When the jackpot is $150 million or under, a 10x multiplier will be added to the possible multipliers for the third to ninth prize divisions.

When the jackpot is over $150 million, the third to ninth prize divisions will only use 2x, 3x, 4x or 5x multipliers.

The 2x Power Play will remain the only multiplier option for the second prize division (Match 5 + 0) regardless of jackpot size.

Powerball Numbers – Change to Powerball Tickets

Currently, the Powerball play format works as follows: players pick from two fields of numbers. One of the fields has 59 numbers, the second offers 35 digits. Under the new rules, the first field will be increased ever so slightly to 69, whilst the second field will actually see a decrease to 26.

After the new rules come into effect this autumn, an individual player’s odds to scoop up the jackpot in the multistate US Powerball lottery will be 1 in 292,201,338 and the odds for the second prize of $1 million will be 1 in 11.7 million.

Will the changes result in that much anticipated $1 billion Powerball later this year?

The lottery world is watching the drama with bated breath.
