‘Three Amigos’ Syndicate Wins One Third of $656 Million Mega Millions Jackpot!

One in every three lottery jackpot winners is a syndicate. In fact, the biggest lottery jackpot, the Mega Millions $656 million record-breaking jackpot, was recently won by three tickets – and one of the lucky tickets belonged to a syndicate known as the ‘Three Amigos.’ The Illinois winner came forward, but the Maryland syndicate and the Kansas winner chose to remain anonymous.

Each of the ‘Three Amigos’ syndicate members contributed $20 and bought a total of 60 Mega Millions tickets together. This proved to be a winning strategy because one of these tickets won them a third of the jackpot prize, equivalent to $218.6 million! The lucky numbers were 2, 4, 23, 38, 46 and Mega Ball 23, and they got a perfect match.

About the ‘Three Amigos’ Lottery Syndicate

Even though the syndicate members remained anonymous, which is allowed according to the laws of the state of Maryland, we did learn a few interesting facts about them.

The ‘Three Amigos’ syndicate is a group of friends from Milford Mill, Maryland, who all work in the Maryland public education system. We don’t know the identities of the three winners, but we do know that one is a woman in her twenties, another is a woman in her fifties and the third syndicate member is a man in his forties.

The youngest syndicate member took the tickets home and checked the results, not an easy feat as there were 60 tickets! Once she realized they had a winning ticket, she immediately called up her fellow players. They signed, copied and locked the ticket in a safe.

The syndicate members chose the lump-sum option of $158 million in cash, so after tax they each took home a remarkable $35 million. Now that’s a massive return on a $20 investment! When they collected their giant-sized check from the Maryland Lottery, they hid their faces behind the check and disguised their bodies.

Something else we also know about the syndicate is that they bought the winning ticket at a 7-Eleven in Milford Mill. The store earned itself a $100,000 reward for the sale.
