Leroy Beckford, a Bronx, New York resident, won $11.5 million in last month’s New York Lotto and already has plans for his winnings!
A long-time lottery player, Beckford has purchased some form of lottery ticket every day for years. His persistence sure paid off, when he won $11.5 million in the New York Lotto on July 5th. The former taxi driver, who is originally from Jamaica, told a press conference the other day “I’m feeling good!”
After watching the drawing on TV and seeing his winning numbers displayed – 5, 9, 23, 34, 44 and 59 – he had to call a friend to double check, as he didn’t believe what he was seeing. “I was in total shock”, he claimed. “I just couldn’t believe it.” After calling his only daughter Michelle, who lives with him, to tell her of the news, they both decided on taking the lump-sum of $4.9 million, after taxes.
And Leroy’s first luxury purchase? For the retired cabbie, a Lexus, to ride around in style. And a driver to take him wherever he wants to go! Make sure to check out New York’s newest lottery craze, Cash4Life, newly available at theLotter, with drawings every Monday and Thursday!
