Two lucky lottery winners are Canada’s newest millionaires, after winning big!
Winning in Winnipeg
Newton Dalton will have a lot less money troubles in 2015, thanks to winning CAD $1 million in the January 17th Lotto 6/49 drawing. Purchasing a ticket for the unbelievable jackpot of CAD $35 million, Dalton was disappointed when seeing his numbers didn’t match. But his sadness quickly turned to joy as he realized that he had won CAD $1 million in the automatic raffle that each ticket is entered in!
He is the first Winnipeg resident to win this automatic drawing, since the Lotto 6/49 started the ‘Guaranteed Prize’ back in September 2013. Checking his numbers the evening of the draw, Dalton was quoted as saying “I didn’t win anything on my numbers, but I got to the bottom and said ‘What’s this, I think I’ve won!’”. Plans for his windfall include paying off his truck and then keeping the rest for retirement.
Making History in Edmonton
Canada’s Western 649 lottery underwent some changes in October 2014, the biggest of which was a top-prize increase from CAD $1 million to CAD $2 million. And since that time, this lottery hasn’t claimed a winner – until now! Donald Owen made Western 649 history when he was the first to win this CAD $2 million jackpot, in the January 10th drawing.
Purchasing a ticket for just CAD $4, Owen checked his numbers the day after the raffle. When the clerk told him his win was CAD $20,000, Owen was ecstatic. But after realizing that there was another zero to add to his win, Owen became speechless! The winning numbers that night were 19, 22, 33, 35, 37 and 38.
This week’s Lotto 649 jackpot is up to CAD $7 million, make sure to get your tickets in time!
