Q

What is a lottery syndicate?

A

A lottery syndicate is a group of players who buy lottery tickets together. Each syndicate player owns a portion of these collective tickets and will receive a proportionate part of any winnings.

theLotter creates syndicates for each of the top lotteries and pre-purchases huge batches of lottery tickets for each draw. There are different kinds of syndicates based on how the numbers were selected and how many lines the syndicate consists of. In other words, we have made it easy for you – everything has already been set up. All you need to do is select a syndicate based on your preferences and choose how many shares you would like to purchase.

Here is an explanation of common syndicate terminology -

  • Lines – The lines are the different number combinations that are purchased for a syndicate. For example, a 100-line syndicate would have 100 unique number combinations (also known as tickets or blocks), giving syndicate players 100 chances of winning the jackpot. These lines are purchased by the syndicate for the upcoming draw.
  • Total Shares – Each syndicate is divided into equal portions, which are available for purchase. These portions are also known as Shares, and they establish the percentage of the syndicate’s prizes that you stand to win. As an example, in a syndicate with 50 total shares, each share is worth 2% of the syndicate’s winnings (calculated by dividing 100% into 50 equal pieces). The more shares you purchase, the bigger your percentage of the prize will be.

Q

Why should I play lottery syndicates?

A

Joining a lottery syndicate will give you improved odds of winning lottery prizes while costing you less money. A syndicate allows you to play hundreds of different number combinations without having to buy multiple lottery tickets yourself. As part of a syndicate you have a chance to win multiple times in each draw and you will be able to share the excitement of winning with fellow lottery players.

Q

What happens if not all syndicate shares are purchased?

A

theLotter guarantees that your portion of the syndicate and your winning odds will not be affected, regardless of the amount of shares actually sold. In the case of a win, you will be paid out according to your share ownership. Even if not all syndicate shares are sold, all of the syndicate’s lines will still participate in the upcoming draw.

Q

What are the different types of syndicates available?

A

There are four types of syndicates available at theLotter -

  • Random Selection — Numbers are randomly selected for a fixed number of lines.
  • Systematic — a syndicate covering all possible unique combinations out of a set of 7-14 numbers, randomly selected.
  • Guaranteed Number Match — each of the syndicate’s lines contains a changing number, which covers the entire span of the lottery’s guess range. This guarantees the syndicate will match at least one of the numbers drawn. The other numbers are selected randomly.
  • Additional Numbers Match Guaranteed — the syndicate’s lines contain every possible combination of the lottery’s additional number(s). This ensures that the syndicate will match the additional number(s) at least once —guaranteed! Other numbers are selected randomly.

Q

How are the numbers of a syndicate chosen? Can I choose my own numbers?

A

At theLotter, syndicate numbers are preselected at random when the syndicate is created. When joining a syndicate, it is not possible to change or choose the syndicate’s numbers. You can see the numbers in advance when choosing which syndicate to join. When purchasing a multi-draw package for syndicates, each subsequent share will have different numbers as generated per syndicate and draw.

Q

How are syndicate wins divided and paid out?

A

When a lottery syndicate wins, the prizes are split evenly between the total shares. Your portion of the syndicate’s prizes will depend on the amount of shares you purchased in the syndicate. All non-jackpot or secondary wins will be paid out to winners shortly after receipt of the prize from the official lottery operator. If your syndicate wins a lottery jackpot, you will be contacted by a representative of our customer support team who will guide you through the process of receiving your share of the prize.

Q

Can I participate in a lottery syndicate with a subscription?

A

Currently syndicates are available for multi-draw packages and personal entries, however, syndicate subscriptions will possibly be available in the near future.

Q

Can I open my own syndicate?

A

At this time, you are not able to set up your own syndicates but you can choose to participate in any one of the existing syndicates available at theLotter. We have a variety of syndicates that users can choose from for different lotteries, and we are always open to suggestions. If there is a specific syndicate you would like to see offered, contact us and let us know!

Q

What is a multi-draw for syndicates?

A

Multi-Draw packages for syndicates allow you to purchase syndicate shares for future draws in advance and thus save up to 25% off the regular cost of participation. When purchasing a Multi-Draw package for syndicates you select your favourite lottery syndicate, decide how many shares you want to buy and how many draws you want to participate in. You will automatically join a syndicate of the same lottery for subsequent draws until your package runs out.

Q

With multi-draw for syndicates, will I always play identical syndicates?

A

We aim to open similar syndicates for each draw, however, sometimes we open special syndicates for draws with higher than usual jackpots. If there's no identical syndicate at a future draw, we will aim to match you to the closest alternative. Note that this also applies to syndicates contained within bundles. There are two scenarios that can occur.

Scenario 1: at a subsequent draw there is no identical syndicate. We will allocate you to the closest matching syndicate, taking into account share price, number of lines and syndicate type. The price of the share may vary by up to 25% from the original cost

Scenario 2: there is no matching syndicate at a subsequent draw (according to the parameters set out in scenario 1). In this case we'll cancel your package and refund you for the remaining draws.

Q

Can I purchase shares for more than one syndicate in one multi-draw syndicate package?

A

Yes, as long as the syndicates are for the same lottery, you may purchase various shares from all available syndicates.
