UK National Lottery Sponsors ‘National Lottery Anniversary Run’

May 6, 2013

In celebration of last summer’s legendary 2012 London Olympics, the UK National Lottery is giving the community a chance to participate in the first sporting event in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and Stadium since the games ended.

For the first time since the Closing Ceremonies of the 2012 London Olympics, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and Stadium will play host to a sporting event. The National Lottery Anniversary Run, which takes place on Sunday, July 21st, was put together by funding from the UK National Lottery. The sporting event will give Newham residents the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of their sporting idols as they are given an amazing opportunity to cross the same finish line as their national Olympic heroes. The five-mile event, which will be on a course set up around Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, gives up to 10,000 people the chance to run the final 300 metres to the stadium finish line.

This is the fifth consecutive year that the run has taken place in the borough of Newham and the second year that it has secured use of the former Olympic stadium.

As one of the most crucial sources of funding for good causes in the UK, the National Lottery upholds a tradition of impressive jackpots and philanthropy. Since 2002, it has helped raise funds for the National Lottery Good Causes foundation which assists hundreds of needy organizations around the country. As one of several British lotteries that take part in the “National Lottery Awards,” the U.K. National Lotto is continuously recognized for the impact that it makes on the community at large.
