Illinois Lottery cheques worth $159,000 bounce – January 18th 2012

  by: admin - Category:

Many Illinois Lottery fans may have been left confused and annoyed recently, as dozens of cheques written out to winners of the state game bounced – although officials have insisted the problem has now been resolved and steps are being taken to ensure it does not happen again.

Written on December 28th, 85 out of the 311 sent out failed to be banked, resulting in winners wondering when their money would arrive in their account.

The cheques totalled $159,000 and, according to reports, most of them were addressed to those who had struck lucky playing scratch-off games.

Mike Lang, a spokesman for the lottery said the incident occurred when a computer file was not sent on time to the lottery‘s bank. Officials did not, therefore, key in the necessary security code for the cheques to be accepted by various banks.

He added that the incident may have also happened because many Illinois Lottery workers were on annual leave over the Christmas period, suggesting the necessary checks to ensure all systems were in place correctly were overlooked due to the offices being short-staffed.

Any fees incurred by Illinois Lottery winners because of this problem, Mr Lang states, will be paid for by the organisation.

He added that the lotto sends its apologies by sending free scratch-off tickets to those affected.

Anybody who wins more than $600 playing the Illinois Lottery can go to one of a selection of offices that issue cheques in the state.

Those affected were predominantly people who had won $1,000, but the largest individual cheque to bounce was worth $9,500.

When the winners deposited their cheques to their respective banks, they were initially accepted. But when they tried to withdraw the money, it was revealed the cash was not in their account.

Mr Lang revealed the problem was identified shortly after the cheques had been issued but added: “It’s something that we are not happy with and we’re taking steps.”

Such incidents may be a concern to lottery fans – no matter what particular draws they favour – but if they choose to play lotto online, they may reduce the chances of this happening to them.

Lottery names: You say loto, I say lotto – January 18th 2012

  by: admin - Category:

Lottery fans searching for new and exciting draws to get involved in may be using the internet to seek out new games to try – but there is a chance that a great many are being overlooked because they refer to themselves as loto rather than lotto.

Some players may never have considered entering a loto draw before, preferring perhaps to stick to the familiar English language lotto games out there – but these people may not know what they are missing.

France Loto

The France Loto is the national lottery ofFrance and is extremely popular in its home country – hence the reason why it has three draws every week on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.

Indeed, the French have been avid lottery fans for centuries, with the oldest records in the country of such games being played dating back to 1505.

Loto fans who think they have the same zeal for draws as the French can play this evening (January 18th), as the jackpot is estimated to be worth €4 million.

Sweden Viking Loto

The Sweden Viking Loto - which is also referred to as the Viking Lotto – is a Nordic draw based in Sweden, but Scandinavian and Baltic residents can also buy tickets in Norway, Denmark, Iceland, Finland and Estonia.

And being lost in translation is not a problem with this draw because fans can use the plentiful resources at theLotter to play the game, check results and learn more about the Sweden Viking Loto.

The next draw will take place tonight and entrants could be in with a chance of winning 17.6 million Swedish krona if they get their numbers right.

Turkey Super Loto

Finally, Turkey’s Super Loto 6/54 – also known as the Super Lotto 6/54 – is another exciting game fans should not miss out on.

Players who are intrigued about the numerical element of its name may wish to learn that it is called 6/54 because entrants choose six main numbers out of a matrix of 1-54.

This tax-free lottery has a weekly draw on Thursdays, so those interested in lining their pockets with some Turkish lira may want to explore how this game works at theLotter in time for tomorrow night, when the jackpot is estimated to be worth 2.1 million lira.

USA Mega Millions jackpot rises to $152 million – December 19th 2011

  by: admin - Category:

There are many excited USA Mega Millions fans around the world eagerly anticipating tomorrow’s (December 20th) draw.

This is because on Friday (December 16th) the massive North American game saw no lucky winners take home the enormous $135 million top prize.

As a result, this huge payout has ratcheted up to $152 million – and with just two more games before Christmas, lottery fans might be on the edge of their seats as they excitedly await the coming draws on Tuesday and Friday.

Long-time fans of the USA Mega Millions may already be aware that the game’s jackpot payouts have not reached such staggering heights since March of this year.

The draw is known for its massive top prizes and in March 2007, the largest ever sum of $390 million was shared between two winning ticketholders based in New Jersey and Georgia.

This jackpot is the largest-ever to have been won in North America.

Lottery fans who are already growing more excited about their chances tomorrow may also be watching events unravel in the USA Powerball – as both lottery draws are reflecting one another in terms of rollovers resulting in massive jackpots such as Wednesday’s estimated $104 million top prize.

One-in-five Americans ‘know a lottery winner’ – December 5th 2011

  by: admin - Category:

The USA is one nation that loves its lottery games, with a recent survey revealing one-in-five Americans knows a lotto winner personally.

And it is no surprise the country is in love with playing the lottery, because with big-prize draws such as USA Mega Millions and the USA Florida Lotto, it is hard to resist the hype these enormous jackpots bring about.

According to Poll Position, 62 per cent of all Americans have entered a lottery draw at some point – which also includes playing the lotto online.

This week there are some really big jackpot draws taking place in the US, with the next USA Mega Millions game taking place tomorrow (December 6th) with a top prize of $87 million.

The USA Powerball draw on Wednesday (December 7th) promises an estimated $52 million payout to anybody who gets all five numbers plus the Powerball correct.

Furthermore, the next USA Florida Lotto game – which is also on Wednesday – is going to have a top prize of around $41 million, while the Indiana Hoosier Lottery draw looks to have a jackpot of $24 million when the balls are drawn that evening too.

Could picking number 13 increase chances of keeping a SuperEnalotto win to yourself? – December 5th 2011

  by: admin - Category:

Going for the number 13 could reduce a person’s chances of having to share an Italian SuperEnalotto jackpot, as it has been revealed that many players consider this digit unlucky, which could mean fewer people select it when entering a lottery draw.

According to MSN Money, aversion to the digit 13 – which is also known as triskaidekaphobia – could mean that if the ball with that number on it is drawn during a lotto game, less people may have selected it, resulting in a lower chance of sharing a payout with somebody who chose the same numbers on their ticket.

Italian SuperEnalotto fans can also apply this same logic with the number seven, because in Europe this is considered a lucky digit and is therefore more likely to be chosen by superstitious lottery players – which might mean skipping seven reduces the chances of sharing a prize.

Finally, it was recommended not to neglect numbers over 31 – as anything under this number is more popular because of lotto fans’ fondness for picking birthdays when playing the lottery.

Lottery fans may want to see if these tips work out for them when they play the next Italian SuperEnalotto draw tomorrow (December 6th).

The game could make a lucky lotto player very happy indeed, as the jackpot is estimated to be €40 million – which could make the holiday season a little easier on the wallet.

New Zealand lotto winners ‘suffered sleeplessness after win’ – December 2nd 2011

  by: admin - Category:

A pair of New Zealand lottery fans admitted they suffered sleeplessness after striking lucky playing their favourite draw.

According to Stuff, the couple won the West Coast’s largest lottery prize ever on Wednesday last week (November 23rd), scooping NZ$8.4 million – just in time for their Christmas shopping.

The pair – who have opted to remain anonymous – admitted that when they realised their numbers matched all of those drawn in the game they could not bear to close their eyes at night.

“We were too shocked to celebrate. I just had a beer and went to bed, but neither of us slept a wink,” one of the couple said.

But it was not just a case of hopping into the car and driving to collect their winnings from the lottery headquarters, as the pair stated they had to fly from their home to the NZ Lotteries Wellington office with the ticket folded into a travel pouch attached to a necklace.

And the lotto fans know just what to spend their winnings on, revealing they will still be going on their traditional Christmas camping trip.

“We’ve been granted a wonderful gift, but for now, we will continue with current plans,” they remarked.

Fans of Australasian lotteries may think they are due a bit of Kiwi good fortune.

If so, lotto lovers can log on to theLotter to play New Zealand Powerball to be in with a chance of winning NZ$5 million on Saturday (December 3rd).

Italian SuperEnalotto ‘produces some of the world’s biggest jackpots’ – December 1st 2011

  by: admin - Category:

Lotto fans who love their jackpots may want to make sure they never miss a beat when it comes to the Italian SuperEnalotto, because this game has resulted in some of the largest top prizes ever to be won.

According to the Irish Independent, the lottery is the only one in Europe that can compete with the EuroMillions when weighing up draws according to their payouts.

This is no mean feat, as the Euro lotto resulted in two of the wealthiest lottery winners in the history of the game in July this year, when Christine and Colin Weir of Largs in Scotland landed the record-smashing €185 million top prize after weeks of rollovers.

Rollovers are why lottery fans cannot get enough of Italian SuperEnalotto, because the game has 90 balls in play which means a higher frequency of top payouts being increased for the next draw.

The newspaper noted that in October 2010, one lucky SuperEnalotto Italian fan landed a €178 million jackpot after the top prize rolled over three times a week for no fewer than nine months.

Lottery fans who fancy a go at the Italian SuperEnalotto can play online tonight (December 1st) at theLotter to be in with a chance of taking home the €38.2 million prize.

USA Powerball winners deny collecting jackpot for a client – November 30th 2011

  by: admin - Category:

Shortly after news emerged that three men from a wealthy part of Connecticut landed the USA Powerball jackpot, it was revealed there was a fourth gent involved – their client.

However, wealth management professionals Greg Skidmore, Tim Davidson and Brandon Lacoff – who won $254 million playing the lottery this month – have denied this speculation.

The three males claim they bought their lotto ticket together on a whim and upon realising the good news that their luck had come through set up a trust fund for the top prize.

After their story hit the papers, Thomas Gladstone, who is said to be the landlord of the company the winners all work for, revealed the assets experts are just fronting for another person in order to maintain his anonymity.

In response to these allegations, Messrs Skidmore, Davidson and Lacoff released a statement from their jointly-held Putnam Avenue Family Trust saying: “To be clear, there are a total of three trustees and there is no anonymous fourth participant.”

The gents named their fund after the street they all work on together.

USA Powerball fans may need such a trust fund if fortune favours them tonight (November 30th), as this evening’s draw is expected to yield a jackpot worth $31 million.

Italian SuperEnalotto jackpot ratchets up to €38.2 million – November 30th 2011

  by: admin - Category:

Lottery fans may be on the edge of their seats awaiting the next Italian SuperEnalotto draw, as weeks of rollovers have resulted in the jackpot being ratcheted up to €38.2 million.

Such an enormous payout could make a lotto player very happy indeed, giving them a huge cash prize just in time for the December holiday season.

The next draw takes place tomorrow (December 1st) and this gives those who like to play SuperEnalotto plenty of time to indulge in a bit of fantasizing about how they would spend such a life-changing sum of money if their luck came in.

However, people fortunate enough to take home a top prize can sometimes let their excitement get out of control - which is understandable given the Italian SuperEnalotto is responsible for attracting people from around the world to play its exciting rollover games and high jackpots.

According to the Citizens Voice, financial consultant and author of Winners, Losers and What to Do When You Win the Lottery Don McNay believes planning is everything when it comes to spending a top tier prize wisely.

He recommends lotto fans do not spend it all in one go and donating some of the money to a good cause, while seeking expert advice may also be a sensible road to go down.

Nearly one-third of Brits ‘have lottery dreams’ – November 29th 2011

  by: admin - Category:

The UK is certainly a country that takes its lottery playing seriously, with nearly one-third of lotto fans admitting they have dreams that their lives will improve when their luck comes in.

According to the Daily Telegraph, a survey by YouGov for the nation’s Financial Planning Week found 29 per cent of Brits think the lotto represents their best hope of a better bank balance.

Indeed, playing British lottery draws has grown in popularity this year, with the UK National Lottery operator Camelot paying out record amounts to prize winners and charities in the six months leading up to September 2011.

The organisation states winnings hit £1.7 billion, which is up £300 million compared to the same time in 2010.

Chief executive of Camelot Dianne Thompson is pleased demand for the lottery in the UK is so high, because it means more proceeds can go to charity.

She said the games it runs are responsible for “raising a record amount for the good causes and paying out record sums in prize money to our players, which is what the National Lottery is all about”.

Lotto fans who like to buy lottery tickets online can explore British lotteries such as the UK National Lottery at theLotter.

The next draw takes place tomorrow (November 30th) and the jackpot is estimated to reach £2.2 million.

Winning lottery ticket ’causes chaos for local store’ – November 25th 2011

  by: admin - Category:

A little shop in a small town in California was turned upside down after it was revealed a jackpot-winning California Super Lotto lottery ticket had been sold there but the lucky player had not come forward.

According to the Cal Coast News, in the days after the news broke that a convenience store in Paso Robles had seen one of its customers buy a slip entitling them to $78 million, locals began to take an interest in the small outlet.

The employee who sold the ticket, Mary Booker, said that without a winner coming forward, residents began to suspect the slip may have been discarded or misplaced in and around the vicinity of the shop.

She revealed there were people checking the shelves to see if a lottery ticket had accidentally been lost amid a crate of cans or a display of magazines, while some ventured into the skips outside the building and even combed through nearby rubbish bins.

It was not long before customers began to suspect the employees of the shop, asking if they were the ones who scooped the lottery jackpot.

In the end, Korean War veteran Charles Hairston, who is 82, came forward to collect his $78 million top prize after 18 days of sitting on his ticket, despite realising his good fortune the very night he bought it on November 1st.

Lotto fans who are dreaming of a Californian lottery win just like Mr Hairston could try their luck at playing USA Super Lotto at theLotter to be in with a chance of winning $10 million in Saturday’s (November 26th) draw.

USA Powerball winner collects prize in limousine – November 24th 2011

  by: admin - Category:

For some lottery winners, getting used to owing a large amount of money can be a daunting thing, but for one USA Powerball player, the luxury lifestyle began even before he collected his prize.

According to Wtop, Shawn Niedomanski rocked up to the Maryland Lottery headquarters in a chauffeur-driven limousine with three of his best friends and his wife, brother and nephew to claim his $200,000 windfall.

The fortunate lotto fan had waited two weeks to go and see lottery officials about his prize money, deciding to drop by on his 50th birthday to make the social occasion even more memorable.

But despite his grand arrival to collect the lump cash sum, Mr Niedomanski has got both feet firmly on the ground when it comes to how he will spend his winnings, revealing he will use the cash to pay off his bills.

Lottery fans who do not live in the States like Mr Niedomanski can still get in on the action and play online Powerball at theLotter.

The next draw will take place on Saturday (November 26th) and lotto enthusiasts who take part could win as much as $25 million.

Lottery winner of AUD$38 million ‘vows to carry on working’ – November 24th 2011

  by: admin - Category:

The winner of AUD$38 million in lottery prize money has vowed to keep on working, despite her enormous wealth.

This week the woman – who is remaining nameless – told lotto officials that she is happy to carry on in her job as a healthcare professional.

Fans of lottery games such as the Australia Powerball may share the winner’s passion for her career, as the player stated: “I really love my work so I will keep on working.”

When quizzed on what she would be buying with her newfound riches, she said she would like to treat her loved ones to a comfortable lifestyle, adding that a holiday and a new house are on the cards.

“This win won’t just change my life, it will change the lives of all of my family,” she remarked.

The lottery winner did not realise her good fortune until lotto officials rang to tell her the news, but initially she thought their call may be a hoax, so checked her lottery ticket online to see if the numbers matched – and they did.

USA Powerball fans ‘would share jackpot with loved ones’ – November 23rd 2011

  by: admin - Category:

USA Powerball players may have noticed that last Saturday’s (November 19th) draw resulted in one lucky fan winning the coveted $59.9 million jackpot.

The ticket was sold in Exeter, Pennsylvania and the Times Leader has taken to the streets of the small town to ask its locals how they would spend such a fortune.

Shavertown resident Margo Harvey said she would share a lotto jackpot payout with everybody and would ensure family and friends were given the support they need, as well as donating some money to organisations that help children.

Carmen Donato of West Pittson revealed he would probably split such a huge amount of cash between his three sons and their families – after all, with $59.9 million, there is plenty to share around.

Tom Connell, who is 59, said he has no use for such a massive payout and so would give it all away to starving and sick people.

Wyoming resident Jeff Murphy has his plans for lottery finances all set out and claimed: “I would probably take the cash, take care of the family … [and] take a cruise.”

He also has political aspirations for his dream USA Powerball millions, revealing he would use the cash to back a Republican candidate in the next presidential elections.

The USA Powerball top prize has now reset to $20 million and lottery fans who want to try their hand at landing this tidy sum for themselves can get in the game in time for tonight’s (November 23rd) draw.

Fast food worker ‘wins $250,000 with discarded USA Mega Millions ticket’ – November 23rd 2011

  by: admin - Category:

A fast food worker from Dawsonville, Georgia, has won $250,000 thanks to a USA Mega Millions ticket that had been tossed in the rubbish bin.

According to Opposing Views, Andrew Hunter, who works at a local branch of Taco Bell, rescued the discarded slip and upon unfurling it realized he had scooped $3, because one of the lines matched one number plus the Mega Ball.

With this small windfall, the 24-year-old then purchased more lottery tickets – one of which resulted in a $250,000 payout.

He remarked: “I would have never bought that ticket if I hadn’t pulled the other ticket out of the trash.

“I don’t think it’s really hit me yet.”

Lottery fans who do not know where to buy MegaMillion lottery tickets can enter the draw at theLotter to be in with a chance of winning one of the cash prizes on offer.

Mr Hunter has not revealed whether he intends to keep his job at Taco Bell, or what purchases he plans to make with his newfound wealth.

He has said, however, that he will be investing some of his money – which could be a wise move for the young lotto winner.

USA Mega Millions fans could grab up to $55 million in prize money if they enter Friday’s (November 25th) lotto draw.

EuroMillions winners ‘blow €185,000 on cars for friends’ – November 23rd 2011

  by: admin - Category:

This summer’s record-smashing EuroMillions winners – Christine and Colin Weir from Largs in Scotland – have lavished €185,000 on new cars for their friends.

According to the Daily Record, the couple – who scooped €185 million in July playing the European lottery – have snapped up six vehicles on sale at a local Suzuki dealership, keeping two of the Japanese autos for themselves.

Their choice of car could be proof that the multimillionaires are relatively down to earth, given that their incredible wealth could afford them the world’s most expensive car, a €1.4 million Aston Martin One77.

In addition to buying Suzukis, the Weirs let one friend choose his own new set of wheels and picked up the bill for the black €92,000 Mercedes when he had decided what he wanted.

An insider close to the pair told the newspaper: “Since their incredible win, they have helped out lots of friends but have done so discreetly. They don’t want any fuss but they have always been generous.”

Indeed, the recipient of one of the Suzukis the Weirs purchased has claimed the lotto win will not change them and by purchasing cars from local showrooms they are also doing the region’s economy some good.

Family business celebrates after selling winning lotto ticket – November 21st 2011

  by: admin - Category:

A family-run shop has cracked open the bubbly to celebrate selling its second lottery ticket worth a large amount of cash to a lucky patron.

According to the Irish Independent, the O’Donohoe family – who manage the Spar branch in Abbeyknockmoy near Taum – popped open a bottle of sparkling wine outside the store to fete the good fortune of one of their customers, who is now €3.8 million richer thanks to buying a winning Ireland Lotto ticket from the shop.

This is not the first time the O’Donohoes have sold a lottery ticket that has led to a patron winning a massive payout, because one EuroMillions fan scooped €500,000 after entering the draw at the store several years ago.

Patrick O’Donohoe, who works in the shop with his father, said: “We’re hoping [the winner is] somebody local but we don’t have a clue who it might be. Nobody has made themselves known to me yet. We get a lot of passing trade, but on account of it being a Saturday, it could be a local person.”

The family have said they hope to congratulate the winner in person if he or she makes themselves known to them.

Number 7 ‘is most popular lottery number’ – November 21st 2011

  by: admin - Category:

Many lottery fans may have something else in common besides their love of lotto draws – a penchant for including the number seven in the sequences they choose to play in their favourite games.

Seven is known to be a lucky number in many cultures and it seems a great many lotto fans are superstitious enough to use this digit regularly – perhaps to boost their luck if they have a jackpot win in mind.

Dr John Haigh – an emeritus reader of mathematics and statistics at the University of Sussex and author of a book entitled Taking Chances: Winning with Probability – believes this prime number is a real favourite amongst lottery enthusiasts.

He revealed that Canadian lotteries – such as Canada Lotto 649 – publish the frequencies that individual digits are chosen.

The number seven was the most favoured, followed by 11, 3, 9, 5, 27, 31, 8 and 17.

Dr Haigh said low odd numbers are the most popular, while round numbers are relatively unpopular – perhaps because people do not see them as “sufficiently random”.

When it comes to lesser-chosen digits, the expert revealed 40 as being the least frequently picked lotto number, followed by 39, 48, 41, 20, 38 and 46.

Dr Haigh claims clusters of lottery numbers could be a better way of picking a sequence to play in a draw, because this is more random than spreading the digits out – which could reduce the likelihood of sharing a prize if they win with those numbers.

What is a lucky dip? Lotto Terms Series Part 3 – November 17th 2011

  by: admin - Category:

Lotto fans may find themselves scratching their heads for great lengths of time as they grapple with which numbers to pick when playing their favourite lottery draws – but do they know that lucky dips can save them from the anxiety of picking digits from addresses and birth dates?

Lucky dips are random number selectors that choose the numbers a lottery player will use in a particular draw for them.

Also known as a quick pick, lotto fans utilise computer programs to select a range of numbers to be played, so they are leaving the sequence they use entirely up to fate.

There are lots of random number generator sites available on the internet and some lottery enthusiasts may prefer them to using numbers they are familiar with.

Academic statistician and Winton professor of the public understanding of risk at Cambridge University David Spiegelhalter has suggested that using lucky dips can be a good choice for lotto players who want to vary their number selection.

“The real problem with always choosing the same number pattern is that it is difficult to ever stop, given the regret you would feel if that combination subsequently came up,” he explained.

There are a multitude of ways to select lottery numbers at random, so why not give it a go today and see if using a random number selector is better than picking anniversaries and postcodes?

Lottery origins: How did today’s lotto games come about? – November 17th 2011

  by: admin - Category:

Some people may think that the lottery is a relatively modern pastime, but in reality, the concept of such games has been going on for not just hundreds of years but millennia.

Tracing back such activities through history, there have been records of lottos taking place in ancient civilisations, long before countries where lotteries are very popular now – such as the US and UK – were even using the alphabet.

Some of the earliest accounts of people playing lottery games can be found in Hang Dynasty records in China circa 205 to 187 BC.

It is believed a pastime called Keno originated at this time, with draws generating funding to finance government projects such as the Great Wall of China.

A century later, during the reign of Roman leader Augustus Caesar, a public lottery was held to raise money to finance the restoration of Rome.

Lotto games as we know them today began to crop up in the Middle Ages, with a draw in Florence being held with a cash prize in 1530 – it is thought this was the first such lottery in history where players could win a payout if they picked the right numbers.

Even today, lotteries are still evolving, with the Italian SuperEnalotto emerging from the famous Enalotto game, while new draws continue to crop up across the world.

What would you buy with a €15 million EuroMillions jackpot? – November 16th 2011

Yesterday’s (November 15th) EuroMillions draw resulted in one player scooping the €15 million top prize thanks to matching all five numbers correctly plus the two Lucky Star bonus balls.

The fortunate lotto fan is yet to make themselves known to the world – after all, it has not even been a full day since they realised they now own a life-changing sum of cash – but it begs the question, what would you buy with all that money?

Some helpful tips for spending a EuroMillions win have been suggested by the Daily Telegraph.

Toasting one’s success is very important when something this exciting happens to them, so the newspaper suggests investing in some good-quality champagne, such as the Methuselah of Cristal Brut 1990, which sold at auction in 2005 in New York for €13,197.

But what should a fabulously wealthy lottery winner nibble on while they celebrate their newfound riches? Why caviar of course. With even a kilo of the world’s most expensive Almas caviar – which comes in a 24-carat gold tin – barely denting their bank balance at €18,700.

Finally, what does a multi-millionaire look at while they are sipping their Cristal and snacking on Almas?

The newspaper suggests investing in a beautiful timepiece, such as the Hubolt Black Caviar Bang watch, which is encrusted with diamonds and is priced at €738,000.

Lottery winner ‘to buy mother a house with prize money’ – November 16th 2011

  by: admin - Category:

Lottery players may already know what they would buy themselves if they landed $1 million playing their favourite draw, but one fan has put his family’s happiness before his own after striking lucky.

The lotto player from San Jose in the US has claimed he is going to use his enormous windfall to buy his mum a new house.

Speaking to NBC Bay Area, the man – who wishes only to be identified as Juan T – admitted he is an “avid” fan of playing his favourite draws and on the day he bought his ticket and checked the numbers, he knew immediately he was a winner.

The fortunate lotto enthusiast took home $1 million and admitted when it dawned on him that he had landed a life-changing sum of money, he went straight home to tell his mother the good news.

When asked about what his priority purchases will be, Juan T stated his mother’s new house is going to be one of the most important things he buys with the money.

However, he had not put his own dreams entirely on the backburner, admitting that he might treat himself to a new Corvette.

Newsreader Jamie Owen told BBC Wales Online recently that family should come first when it comes to allocating what to spend a lottery win on and said the first thing he would buy is a big lunch for his nearest and dearest so they could decide together how to splash the cash.

Louisiana Lottery ‘celebrates 20 years of making millionaires’ – November 16th 2011

  by: admin - Category:

The Louisiana Lottery is celebrating 20 excitement-packed years of making hundreds of millionaires – and to mark the milestone anniversary, it is offering a raft of promotions and games to its fans.

It seems the state lotto continues to be popular, with 2011 proving to be its second-best year, selling $385 million worth of tickets.

Rose Hudson, lottery president, claims the trust players have in the game is why it is so successful and stated that the Louisiana Lottery was the first in the USA to be given verification of quality assurance procedures meeting industry best practices.

“It’s a wonderful time to look back on how much the Louisiana Lottery has contributed to our state monetarily and culturally – as well as thank those business partners, employees and Louisianans who helped make it happen,” she noted.

In celebration of its 20th anniversary, the Louisiana Lottery launched a Facebook campaign to give players the chance to win a Mardi Grad parade ride by sharing their own customs for the festival on the social media site, while in February it brought back its popular Millionaire Bonus Raffle to be in with a chance of winning $1 million.

Fans were given the chance to design the official anniversary T-shirt in spring and in September a series of special scratch-off games were launched.

Louisiana Lottery fans can check their lotto numbers at theLotter – and players may already be excited for tonight’s (November 16th) rollover draw.

What is a multiplier? Lotto Terms Series Part 2 – November 16th 2011

  by: admin - Category:

In this second edition in our new series of understanding lotto terms, we want to help lottery fans boost their game by understanding what it means to choose the multiplier option.

Many lotto fans may have spotted the Megaplier when they play USA Mega Millions - this is what is known in the lottery world as a multiplier.

It is simply a way of multiplying a non-jackpot lottery prize for an additional charge.

Non-jackpot prizes are multiplied by the Megaplier number – 2, 3 or 4 – which means lotto fans can get a lot more bang for their buck if their lucky numbers come through.

In the USA Mega Millions draw, the match 5 prize – which is always $250,000 – is always multiplies by Megaplier number 4, instantly making the ticketholder a millionaire.

USA Powerball works in a similar play with its own Power Play option, which boosts a player’s non-jackpot winnings by multiplying it with the Power Play ball and entitles match 5 prize-winners to a $1 million payout, just by ticking a box.

The USA Oregon Megabucks also has a multiplier entitled the Kicker, which entitles any non-jackpot prize won in the game to be multiplied by four.

There’s no time like the present for lottery enthusiasts to give these optional extras a go to boost their winnings, with the next USA Powerball and Oregon Megabucks draws taking place today (November 16th) and the next USA Mega Millions game scheduled for Friday (November 18th).

USA Florida Lottery ‘celebrates 25 years’ – November 15th 2011

  by: admin - Category:

The USA Florida Lottery has had a lot to celebrate this year, with the game turning 25 on November 4th of this month, marking a quarter-of-a-century of exciting rollovers, supporting good causes and generating great prizes which have thrilled fans from all over the world.

On November 4th 1986, 64 per cent of voters made their mark on the state’s constitution, enabling it to run a state-managed lottery, with the first tickets for the game being sold two years later for its first draw on May 7th 1988.

So far there have been a total of 321,422,975 total winners, with 965 of these being made millionaires by the lotto.

Furthermore, the game has earned a whopping $7 billion for state education.

The good work of the USA Florida Lottery may be well known to those lucky enough to live in the Sunshine State, but not to lotto enthusiasts from further afield.

Its sole beneficiary is the Education Enhancement Trust Fund, which supports programmes at state college and university levels.

Chief executive officer of Florida TaxWatch Dominic Calabro told Florida Trend: “I think it’s fair to say without the lottery contribution to education, our public education would be far more troubled. With all its perceptions and challenges, it’s been a net contributor to Florida.”

Lottery jackpot winners advised to “take it slow” – November 15th 2011

  by: admin - Category:

Fans of big-prize lottery draws such as Italian SuperEnalotto and EuroMillions might already have a plan in their head as to where their jackpot money will go when their lucky numbers come through.

One expert has recommended, however, that fortunate lotto fans do not rush into the millionaire lifestyle, advising those who land an enormous windfall to stay level-headed.

Speaking to the Calgary Herald, Michael Whitty, a lawyer who specialises in estate planning and taxation with Vedder Price in Chicago, said he has provided guidance for clients who have won massive payouts playing the lottery in the past.

“My best advice to the lottery winners is three things – take it slow, keep it quiet and get a good financial adviser,” the legal professional suggested.

One of the areas in which lotto winners may need help is with the media attention that comes with such a prize.

Illinois Lottery spokesman Mike Lang said there are officials available to help people through the process and going public can yield some good things for the lucky lotto fan.

“Once they do the publicity and press conference and things, they look back on it pretty fondly,” he commented.

Everybody’s plans for what they want to do with their lottery finances are unique, but having a relaxed approach if they scoop a jackpot could be a wiser move overall.

To make these dreams come true, lottery fans can play their favourite draws at theLotter, where they are alerted if their luck comes in.

What is a rollover? Lotto Terms Series Part 1 – November 15th 2011

  by: admin - Category:

Welcome to the first blog in our new series of lotto terms, a feature that aims to explain to players what some lottery jargon really means.

Lotto fans may already be familiar with the word rollover, but to those who do not know, this is when games become even more exciting and jackpots start to climb even higher.

A rollover is when a top prize is not won after a draw because no lottery tickets had numbers matching all of the balls drawn in the game.

As a result, the jackpot rolls over to the next game, increasing the payout when somebody does strike lucky with their numbers.

Rollovers are a thrill for many lotto fans and some prizes can keep on growing for months on end, creating record-smashing jackpots when they are finally won.

This year, the EuroMillions saw its largest-ever prize go to Christine and Colin Weird of Largs in Scotland.

The couple won the coveted €185 million jackpot in July after 14 rollovers and were lucky they nabbed it when they did,

because EuroMillions officials were going to split the money between second-tier winners if nobody’s luck came in.

Another game that is popular thanks to its rollovers is Italian SuperEnalotto, which sees its jackpots climb week upon week owing to having 90 balls in play – which may also tempt those who love the excitement a rollover causes.

Chicago lottery winners ‘keep $30 million jackpot payout under wraps’ – November 14th 2011

  by: admin - Category:

Somewhere in Chicago there is a family of a mother, father and two teenage children who are sitting on a lottery fortune – but only a very select few know who these multi-millionaires are.

According to the Calgary Herald, the household scooped $30 million playing their favourite lotto game back in June but have opted to keep their identities anonymous.

Their lawyer, Pat Agnew, claims the family are “different” from the majority of lottery winners in that they have a clear plan for their riches, with the husband and wife proposing to pay off their debts, support their charities and save cash for their children’s education.

Local lottery winner Mike Wittkowski from Inverness – which is also in Illinois – scooped $40 million in lottery money in 1984 and at the time was North America’s wealthiest-ever lotto winner.

Commenting on the family’s decision the lotto fan told the news source: “If they can get away with it, good for them.”

Recently, Go Local Prov revealed a lottery player from Rhode Island claimed $10,000 playing her favourite lotto game but wishes to remain anonymous so she and her husband can enjoy their winnings in peace.

Would you take the trip of a lifetime with an online lotto win? – November 10th 2011

  by: admin - Category:

One of the first things many lotto winners do when they get their money is take a holiday, but some online lottery fans may have something a little more special in mind.

One lotto fan who scooped a £100,000 prize recently is mental health care support worker Caroline Wright from Inverness, who revealed she is going to use her newfound wealth to fund the dream trip she has longed for – an adventure to China.

“I have always wanted to go to China. I have always dreamed of seeing the Terracotta Warriors,” she said when she collected her winnings.

Ms Wright – who is 49 – nearly missed out on this chance of a lifetime because she was seconds away from putting her jeans in the washing machine when her husband reminded her to check her lotto tickets.

She found the winning slip in the back pocket of her denims in the nick of time.

Playing lottery online can eliminate these risks because the lotto player’s tickets are saved digitally, while winners are alerted if their numbers result in a payout.

Should USA Powerball fan have played lotto online? – November 7th 2011

  by: admin - Category:

One USA Powerball fan from Connecticut may be wishing he had bought his ticket for the lotto online, because he has claimed the proof he is entitled to a $254 million jackpot has been misplaced.

According to ABC News, store owner Suni Patel says a city sanitation worker came into his shop claiming he is the lotto player officials are currently searching for, but the worst has happened and he cannot find the ticket.

“[He] lost the ticket. He says it’s his number, but he can’t find the ticket. So I don’t know what to say,” Mr Patel told WTNH-TV.

The sanitation worker has until April 30th to search his house from top to bottom for the missing ticket and claim his life-changing prize.

For many, the idea of losing a winning lottery ticket is the stuff of nightmares, but this can be avoided by playing lotto online at theLotter, where their numbers are recorded and fortunate lotto fans are notified if their luck comes in after a draw.

Canadian Lotto 649 winner ‘will use prize to help with medical bills’ – November 1st 2011

  by: admin - Category:

For many people, a lotto win gives them the chance to go on a luxury holiday or buy the sports car they have always wanted – but for one Moncton lottery fan, the payout will give him peace of mind.

Speaking to the Journal Pioneer, Henry Woodward – who won C$100,000 playing Canadian Lotto 649 on October 13th – said the cash will help him and his wife afford to pay for his treatment for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

His medication costs as much as $15,000 annually, with his wife Cathy running a hairdressing business from their home to pay the bills.

“[It] couldn’t have come at a nicer time,” Mr Woodward stated.

The lucky lottery winner and his wife will be giving some of his winnings to relatives and will also help finance their granddaughter’s education.

Last month, a lottery fan from Toronto won C$50 million playing her favourite Canadian lottery – which could entice others to enter their favourite North American games such as Canadian Lotto 649.

Lotto fan wins C$90 ‘after playing same numbers for 25 years’ – November 1st 2011

  by: admin - Category:

A lottery fan from Winnipeg has taken home C$90 in lotto winnings playing the numbers he has used week in and week out for a quarter of a century.

According to the Metro News however, the player – who wanted to remain nameless – nearly lost out on his chance to collect his long-awaited lottery money after his lotto ticket was stolen.

The 61-year-old thanked the Manitoba Lotteries’ security measures, which prevented a shop assistant who was asked to check the numbers from allegedly cashing in on the prize, fobbing the real winner off with C$5.

“[Lottery officials] knew the ticket belonged to me,” he said, adding that he is “surprised” about his luck and admitted he is “pretty excited” about what he is going to do with his newfound cash, revealing plans for a car and some projects around the house.

And fans of Canadian lotteries such as Canadian Lotto 649 can play at theLotter to be in with a chance of striking lucky too.

Tomorrow (November 2nd), the jackpot is C$8 million – a life-changing amount for most lotto fans.

Should online lottery fans go for games with smaller prize pots? – October 31st 2011

  by: admin - Category:

Lottery fans who love to log on and play their favourite online lottery draws may find their chances of winning improve if they go for games with smaller prize pots.

Matt Asher, editor of StatisticsBlog.com and maths graduate from the University of Toronto’s well-known statistics programme explained that – in general – lotteries with smaller jackpots might give enthusiasts a bigger chance of winning.

“If you play lots of small stakes games, you may win small amounts often,” he explained.

He added that the best lottery draws to get involved in could be those with middle-level jackpots – but where lotto fans are motivated by the size of the top prize, they may need to weigh up a greater chance of taking home some money and the amount of cash on offer.

And a bias for higher numbers could also boost one’s chances of winning big playing lotto online, as emeritus reader in mathematics and statistics at the University of Sussex Dr John Haigh explained last week that entering unpopular numbers means lucky players are less likely to split their win.

Western Australia lotto fans scoop AU$1.5 million – October 27th 2011

Two lottery fans from Western Australian have won more than Au$1.5 million playing lotto on Saturday (October 22nd).

According to Perth Now, 14 lottery enthusiasts from all corners of the country scooped a jackpot share.

The winning Western Australia tickets are said to have been purchased in the Busselton and Bunbury areas of the region and officials are waiting to hear from the fortunate players.

Kenny Perry, who is 42 and from Lake Villa in Illinois, said that he wants to give some of his newfound riches to his mother and siblings because they have stuck by him over the past few difficult years while he was battling cancer – which resulted in the lotto player losing his right arm.

He revealed that his mom will use the cash to buy a house and that her life will be much easier as a result of the windfall.

“I’d like to thank God first of all. Definitely got to thank the lottery. And my mom, being a mom, it’s been a rough life,” Mr Perry told ABC news.

Fans of Canadian lotteries such as Canada Lotto 649 may be interested to hear that one player did not realise he had his winning lotto ticket pinned to the fridge for the school summer holiday period.

Craig Henshaw, a teacher from Toronto, admitted that he bought his usual lottery ticket and then promptly forgot about it, leaving to go on a trip to Europe a few days later.

It was only when the new school term began that he realised he ought to check his slip, which was when he discovered he was the winner of Can$21 million.

“I had no idea I had Can$21 million sitting on my fridge at home. I wouldn’t have been living out of a backpack for two months if I’d known,” Mr Henshaw joked.

As for his winnings, the lottery enthusiast has said he will put some of it towards his nephews’ and nieces’ college education and promised that after a break he would carry on teaching.

EuroMillions winners are ‘lucky to have so many friends to share wealth’ – October 13th 2011

  by: admin - Category:

Following the news that Dave and Angela Dawes have become the UK’s third-richest lottery winners scooping €115 million playing EuroMillions last week, one journalist has commented that the love birds are lucky to have so many friends they want to share their fortune with.

According to the Daily Mail’s Jan Moir, the pair are drawing up a list of a dozen-or-so people that they will make millionaires, with those who qualify for this incredible cash gift having supported the pair in recent years.

“They are, indeed, a lucky couple, in more ways than one. There cannot be many of us who have 20 friends who have helped us throughout our lives,” she remarked.

Ms Moir added that the pair is now the envy of the entire nation and whatever they decide to do with their newfound lotto riches, they will be doing it in style “with a cherry on top”.

The newspaper reported earlier this week that Ms Dawes is planning to buy fast cars and luxury mansions, while her other half is intending to purchase a new engagement ring for his betrothed.

‘There’s no trick’ to picking Italian SuperEnalotto numbers – October 12th 2011

  by: admin - Category:

Lottery fans who pore over long lists of the numbers that have been coming up over the last however-many draws of their favourite lotto game such as Italian SuperEnalotto have been told to relax.

According to distinguished statistician and Winton professor of the public understanding of risk at Cambridge University David Spiegelhalter, although certain combinations have been highlighted as being luckier than others, by the law of mathematics, no lottery ball is more or less likely to be called than any other.

“This is checked regularly. Any suggestion that a number is ‘hot’ or ‘due’ is complete nonsense,” he remarked.

The expert acknowledged that 7, 14, 21, 28, 35 and 42 used to be the most common numbers to appear in lottery games, but he said statistically, any sequence goes.

Lotto fans keen to try their new relaxed attitude to number – picking can do so tomorrow (October 13th), to be in with a chance of winning €22.5 million playing Italian SuperEnalotto.

  by: admin - Category:

Fans of the comedy series The Office may find that the programme inspires online lotto players when it comes to their dreams of winning big on their favourite game.

In the eighth season of the US version of the popular show, the warehouse staff strike lucky and leave their jobs, while the characters who work upstairs are left fantasising about what they would do with a juicy lottery payout.

Funnyman Jim claims he would move Pam and their children to Maine, while his other half ruminates that she would prefer the New York district of SoHo because she would be able to have fancy coffee every morning.

Kelly, however, states she would stay in her role at Dunder Mifflin for a $1-a-day salary but would do no work and former warehouse worker Darryl is left devastated as he is not entitled to any of the winnings since he changed jobs.

Many lottery winners ‘stay in work because they enjoy it’ – October 12th 2011

  by: admin - Category:

To some lotto fans, the idea of carrying on with the nine-to-five slog every day when there’s a pile of cash in their bank account seems insane – but studies have found many lottery jackpot winners carry on working because they love what they do.

According to the Guardian, a study by Scott Highhouse, psychology professor at Bowling Green State University in Ohio, reported that two-thirds of Americans would not retire, while a similar ICM survey revealed the “vast majority” of Britons would maintain their routine even in the event of a massive windfall.

US journalist Jacki Cisneros, a New Zealand trucker and two shop workers from the UK all won big on the lottery recently, with every one of them carrying on working, despite their respective $266 million, NZD 5.4 million and £750,000 lotto payouts.

Last week, Hollywood superstar Hugh Jackman told the Daily Telegraph that having a job is good for people and that those who win the lottery and hand in their notice will not necessarily be happy in the long-run.

Lottery winners ‘can have both long-term security and luxury’ – October 11th 2011

  by: admin - Category:

Lotto fans who love the idea of having a wealthy nest egg for their family’s security in addition to all the trappings of the millionaire lifestyle may not have to choose between the two if they strike lucky playing lottery online.

According to executive coach and founder of Changetosucceed.com Piya Khanna, it is possible to have both luxury holidays and a celebrity existence as well as long-term financial security if the lotto winner is savvy.

She stated that it is advisable lucky online lottery players seek the advice of a money expert if they are landed with a juicy jackpot.

Ms Khanna noted that a comfortable future and fabulous lifestyle can be had “[as long as winners] are prepared to consider how they would like to invest their funds in the short and long-term”.

Recently, life coach with Rasaru.com Rasheed Ogunlaru advised lotto winners that taking a step back and remembering to think sensibly about owning such a huge sum is essential.

Online lottery winner ‘should take some time out’ – October 10th 2011

  by: admin - Category:

Lottery fans who win big playing their favourite online lotto game have been recommended to take some time out after their luck comes in, because a huge windfall needs time and consideration.

Piya Khanna, executive coach and founder of Changetosucceed.com, claimed that it is best to book at least one week off work rather than hand in one’s notice immediately, because this time can be used to really think about what is important.

“It’s very telling that the first thing people think of when they come into a large sum of money is what can they buy,” she stated.

Rather than splashing the cash like the money is burning a hole in their pocket, Ms Khanna recommends a change of mindset and not wasting the money on frivolities that will only give temporary gratification, such as toys and cars.

Earlier this year, Europe’s wealthiest ever lottery winners Christine and Colin Weir of Scotland jetted to the Canary Islands in the wake of their lotto success, where they may have acclimatised to their €185 million EuroMillions prize.

Should Italian SuperEnalotto winners seek financial advice? – October 10th 2011

  by: admin - Category:

Lottery fans lucky enough to scoop the jackpot playing Italian SuperEnalotto may do well to seek financial advice after winning their millions.

According to life coach with Rasaru.com Rasheed Ogunlaru, taking a step back and remembering to think sensibly about owning such a huge sum is essential – because nobody wants to fritter their prize away to nothing within a short space of time.

“The worst thing you can possibly do is go out and blow all the money,” he remarked, adding that considering matters such as pension and investments are the way a fiscally-savvy lotto winner should go about using their jackpot.

Mr Ogunlaru stated that seeking a financial expert is something lucky lottery fans should “definitely do”.

Would you use a EuroMillions win to ‘keep up with the Joneses’? – October 7th 2011

  by: admin - Category:

Lotto fans keen for a chance of winning a EuroMillions jackpot may have dreams of splashing some of that lovely cash on a holiday or a flashy new car – but some may be more interested in using it to show off to the neighbours.

This is according to life and business coach Rasheed Ogunlaru of Rasaru.com, who claims that competitive people are likely to stay competitive even after landing a huge payout from the lottery and that this need for “keeping up with the Joneses” should be resolved in other ways besides spending.

“Very often we want that windfall, we want a lot of money and we assume it’s going to solve all of our financial problems,” he stated, suggesting that taking a step back and absolving any hang-ups is a healthy way to begin a new life as a multi-millionaire.

With this in mind, lotto fans may want to get in the game today (October 7th) and play EuroMillions.

Tuesday’s (October 5th) jackpot was a rollover so now the top prize is an incredible €119 million.

EuroMillions jackpot of €116 million up for grabs – October 5th 2011

This will not only be one of the highest jackpots ever this year, but if a lucky lottery fan scoops the coveted top prize, they will be among the top richest lotto winners in the world.

If the jackpot goes to a Brit then they will become the third-wealthiest lottery money recipient in the history of the UK.

After last night’s (October 4th) rollover, a spokesman from the British National Lottery said: “It is one of the biggest ever on offer in the UK and if a single ticket-holder were to win they would be leap straight into third place on the exclusive National Lottery Rich List.”

And eager lottery fans who are already itching with their lucky numbers in anticipation of this massive rollover can play lotto online at theLotter, where they can enter the draw from the comfort of their computer.

“Pause and give yourself time” after winning big on the lottery – October 5th 2011

  by: admin - Category:

If a lottery fan finds out their numbers have been called in their favourite draw then it might be their first reaction to ring everybody they know in a frenzy – but one expert recommends taking a more Zen approach to acclimatising to a wealthy payout.

Life coach with Rasaru.com Rasheed Ogunlaru suggests lottery fans take a step back and adjust their minds to what impact this lotto jackpot will have on their lives and those of their nearest and dearest

“My tip would be to actually pause and give yourself some time before calling anybody – just because you can settle yourself,” he said.

And as for calling everybody in the phone book to share the good news, the life guru added that it was best to think twice about letting all and sundry know straight away and consider who they feel comfortable sharing their good news with in the first instance.

Perhaps the calm and collected approach could have benefited one lottery winner from South Carolina.

Last month the anonymous Spartanburg lotto fan told The State that he “freaked out” when he realised he was a rich man.

Do cars feature highly on your Italian SuperEnalotto wish list? – October 4th 2011

  by: admin - Category:

Cars are generally popular purchases for lottery fans who win big playing games such as Italian SuperEnalotto, but would a sleek new auto be your first big spend if you numbers were called?

Speaking to WalesOnline, local celebrities proved to be no different from ordinary lotto fans with many claiming a set of brand spanking new wheels would be on their shopping list after a top prize win.

Professional quiz player and star of BBC’s Eggheads CJ De Mooi revealed that a flash Aston Martin would be the first thing he would buy with such a payout.

Similarly, breakfast show presenter on The Wave DJ Badger revealed that he would procure a Rolls-Royce for his dad.

After the last Italian SuperEnalotto draw resulted in nobody taking home the jackpot, the top prize for the lottery has been ratcheted up to €19.2 million – but who knows, the enormous payout may get even bigger before it is claimed by a lucky lotto player.

A EuroMillions win may open the door to a celebrity lifestyle – October 4th 2011

  by: admin - Category:

Lottery fans eagerly awaiting tonight’s (October 4th) EuroMillions draw may already know how they will spend a multi-million-euro jackpot, but the National Lottery has reminded fans that such a prize can unlock the doors to a celebrity lifestyle.

According to the Plymouth Herald, the reigning Miss Cornwall boarded the Princess 42 luxury yacht in Sutton Harbour and was seen sipping champagne to advertise the sort of pastimes a lotto winner can enjoy.

Indeed, this evening’s EuroMillions draw could result in one lucky player taking home €1 million in prize money.

With a win of this size the recipient could jump up to 817th place on the list of the UK’s richest people and make them worth more than double Princes William and Harry.

A spokesperson for the National Lottery said: “A EuroMillions win … could launch you into the exclusive world of the rich and famous – private jets, super yachts and dream cars.”
