Loteria del Nino – Community and Tradition As Standard

When I was just a little girl, I asked my mother, what will I be? Will I be pretty? Will I be rich? Will I win the lottery? Que sera, sera, whatever will be, will be…

Alright, so Doris Day’s famous lyrics don’t go quite like that, but that is the spirit of the Spanish Christmas raffles Loteria de Navidad and Loteria del Nino. The first is the world’s biggest lottery that celebrated a landmark bicentennial, on 22nd December 2012, by giving away €2.52 billion in prize money. The second is known as ‘the Little One’ and it closed a particularly special festive lottery season on 6th January 2013, with €840 million of its own to dish out.

And what connects Spain’s Loteria Nacional’s annual delicacies with other seasonal super draws like Brazil’s Mega da Virada lottery, which distributed a R$244.7 million main prize, or the EuroMillions UK Christmas and New Year’s Millionaire Raffles that made 50 millionaires in the space of one week?

Well, as impressive as their jackpots, second prizes and winning odds undeniably are, it is actually the sense of community and tradition that binds these annual lotteries to each other and to their loyal fans. It is about knowing that 98% of your compatriots hold onto a ticket and a dream of winning El Gordo in the Spanish Christmas Lottery. It is about reaching higher as a nation to push a New Year’s Eve prize up by R$50 million in a mere matter of weeks. It is about being one of 50 guaranteed millionaires to join more than 200 others created during the past year as a new year brims with potential.

theLotter is proud to have celebrated its 10 Year Anniversary in 2012 and to remain at the centre of a vibrant online lottery community that continues to grow. theLotter is also proud that in its newest tradition, the Loteria del Nino raffle:

  • our players took home more than €42,000 in prizes
  • they beat the official 1 in 3 odds as 1 in 2.5 shares collected a prize, and
  • 1 in 2 theLotter players won in ‘the Little One’

As theLotter wishes heartfelt congratulations to all of its Christmas and New Year winners, we remind our online lottery community of the traditional Spanish refrain ‘its health that really matters’ while looking forward to future lottery successes together!

The UK National Lottery and Its Millionaire Raffles

The lottery world continues to grow and evolve, led by countries such as Australia, the US, Spain and Italy, as well, of course, as each country’s lotto-loving public. The UK National Lottery is an essential part of this elite group, most recently making 50 millionaires in the space of one week in two extraordinary UK Millionaire Raffles.

If EuroMillions is Europe’s premier lottery, then EuroMillions UK, administered by the UK National Lottery, is Europe’s premier lottery plus! Twice each week, as the world’s attention is focused on the main EuroMillions draw, the UK version also hosts the UK Millionaire Raffle.

For every EuroMillions UK line purchased, a unique 9-digit alpha-numeric code is automatically generated at the bottom of the ticket. One of these codes is selected in the UK Millionaire Raffle to guarantee a new millionaire will be made. You would think 104 millionaires each year would be enough, right?

Well, the UK National Lottery thinks its loyal fans and followers deserve better!

In fact, in July 2012, 100 millionaires were made on the same night as the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, to honour the international sporting event and to say thank you to UK lottery players who collectively contributed £2.2 billion to making it possible.

Then came the recent UK Christmas and New Year Millionaire Raffles, two seasonal super draw raffles that each produced 25 millionaires to add to an already impressive tally. In case you are counting, the UK National Lottery created 254 millionaires in the space of one year, from just one of its popular lottery formats!

By calendar year, the beloved British lottery organisation distributed an astounding £850 million to 323 new millionaires across all of its lottery and raffle draws in 2012, up from 229 millionaires made in 2011.

With 25 millionaires already from the UK New Year Millionaire Raffle, 2013 is sure to be an exciting year for the UK National Lottery. You can be sure theLotter will keep you up to date with all the latest action and continue to provide safe and secure online access to over 40 lotteries from the UK and around the world.

The Hunt for the EuroMillions UK Winner Ends

After 180 days of scouring the streets of the Stevenage and Hitchin area of Hertfordshire for the mystery EuroMillions UK winner who held a ticket worth £63 million from the June 8th draw, the prize money has officially been passed over to the National Lottery Good Causes fund. Twitter user @Alan_Tonge said it right, “64 million Euromillions ticket not claimed with the money going to charity. Excellent news for charity, but deary me for the ticket holder!”

The expired prize money, now £63.8 million including the interest that it has accrued, is the largest unclaimed ticket in UK lottery history! While lottery officials and Brits alike are excited that the millions will join a fund that has raised £29 billion to benefit health, sports, recreation and arts education since 1994, EuroMillions UK officials had hoped to present the money on an oversized cardboard check and celebratory EuroMillions champagne flutes to the fifth largest UK lottery winners ever!

Mere week after one ticket from Herfordshire matched all seven winning numbers, 11, 5, 22, 34, 40 and Lucky Stars 9 and 11, entitling them to half of a €158 million EuroMillions jackpot, UK National Lottery officials began scouring the area for the mystery lottery winner. At first, they enlisted a team of promoters armed with lottery balls printed with the winning numbers. The women wore EuroMillions tshirts and spread news of the local win at railway stations, bus stops and the nearest airport, London Luton. Initially, lottery officials speculated that the winner had left for a long vacation around the time of the draw and was unaware that they had matched the jackpot upon their return.

As the weeks and months continued, EuroMillions UK plastered flyers with the winning numbers in every store in Hertfordshire. Billboards and signs reading “Are you the EuroMillions winner?” were hung across the region and driven through the streets. Two trucks displaying giant yellow banners to attract the winner’s attention took up permanent residence in the central town square.

As the December 5th, 11PM deadline neared, lottery officials and locals alike got more creative with their last-ditch attempts to find the missing EuroMillions UK winner. EuroMillions UK employees went door to door, begging people to check for tickets in the couch, the car, and even the trash bin. A town crier appeared in a Lamborghini, and proceeded to shout out the winning EuroMillions numbers in a desperate search for the winner.

After six months of searching, no EuroMillions UK winner ever came forward to collect the £63.8 million prize. Life in Hertfordshire will go back to normal. This is probably the last they will see of a Lamborghini-driving town crier. Hopefully the legend of the missing EuroMillions winner will teach lottery fans a valuable lesson – always check the winning numbers! Check EuroMillions lottery results here.

It’s EuroMillions Super Draw Time! – September 28th, 2012

Its EuroMillions Super Draw Time! September 28th, 2012

Winning €100 million is going to change anyone’s life forever.

And individuals have the chance to get their hands on this monster prize tonight (September 28th) thanks to the EuroMillions Super Draw. As well as coming with a guaranteed jackpot of €100 million, there is scope for the top prize to climb as high as €130 million.

Imagine what winning such a fantastic amount of money would do? It means people would no longer have to worry about job security or being able to afford to send their kids to college.

Instead they could focus on living life to the full by going on amazing holidays and buying top-of-the-range cars and luxurious properties. However, the only way people can have a chance of taking home the €100 million is to buy a EuroMillions Super Draw ticket.

All lottery players have to do to win this massive windfall is match five numbers and two Lucky Stars. Provided they are able to do this, then all of their dreams will surely come true.

The EuroMillions Super Draw is only the fifth super draw that has taken place since 2010 and so everyone should be keen to get involved, because it could be a while before another is organized.

Unsurprisingly, the lottery is currently top of theBig, which means it is the biggest declared jackpot in the world. It is far ahead of the $40 million on offer from the US Powerball and the £19.3 million UK National Lottery.

The winner, or winners, of the EuroMillions Super Draw will be the latest in a long line of people to take home nine-digit jackpots from playing the EuroMillions. Earlier this year, Adrian and Gillian Bayford scooped €190 million, while Chris and Colin Weir took home €185 million in July 2011.

As well as this, two people – one from Belgium and the other from the UK – split a €156 million windfall in June of this year. Because of this, all that remains for people to do is purchase a EuroMillions Super Draw ticket and sit back and see if their lottery numbers come up.

Lottery World Getting Ready For EuroMillions Super Draw – September 19th, 2012

Lottery World Getting Ready For EuroMillions Super Draw September 19th, 2012

Winning €100 million on the EuroMillions would be an amazing way to cap off September.

Despite the fact the jackpot only stands at €26 million for Friday’s draw (September 21st), individuals are guaranteed the opportunity to take home €100 million just seven days later.

This is because a EuroMillions Super Draw has been organized. Lottery players will be delighted to find out the jackpot could go as high as €130 million, depending on how much is in the prize fund.

The winner will be the latest in a long line of nine-figure millionaires made in 2012. As well as Adrian and Gillian Bayford scooping €190 million, two people – one from the UK and one from Belgium- took home €156 million in June.

It represents the first time since October 4th 2011 that a Super Draw has been offered by the EuroMillions and only four of these types of draws have taken place since 2010.

Because of this, people should make sure they purchase lottery tickets for the EuroMillions Super Draw to be in with a chance of taking home a life-changing sum of money.

There are a lot of items they could buy if they scooped €100 million, such as a luxury mansion onLake Como in Italy, where they could be neighbors with Hollywood actor George Clooney.

As well as this, a Bugatti Veyron - a car that costs a cool €1 million – may feature prominently on any wish list, alongside a trip toMonte Carlo to see some of the world’s most exclusive sights.

Wisbech couple Dave and Angela Dawes were the last winners of a EuroMillions Super Draw. They took home over €100 million in October 2011 and used the money to get married, buy a house and enjoy a luxury shopping spree.

The couple admitted the windfall has changed their lives forever and so this is a feeling that a lot people will be keen to experience. Suffice to say, there will be plenty of individuals tuning in to see EuroMillions results on September 28th.

Weirs Donate £750,000 To Local Club For Football Pitch – September 18th, 2012

Weirs Donate £750,000 To Local Club For Football Pitch September 18th, 2012

Since landing £161 million (€185 million) on the EuroMillions last year, Chris and Colin Weir have demonstrated that they are more than happy to support a good cause.

The Scottish couple certainly have kind hearts and provided £750,000 so a new all-weather pitch can be built for their local football club.

Largs Thistle had to postpone games for nine weeks last season because of the poor weather, but thanks to the donation by the Weirs, this will no longer be a problem. The new pitch was officially opened on September 9th and club president Margaret Brown is delighted with the result.

Speaking to the Scotsman, she said: “It’s a wonderful gift to Largs Thistle and the community of Largs. It means we can also get schools and other local teams to use it.”

Mr Weir, who identifies himself as a Barcelona fan, said he was more than happy to help out Largs Thistle, as it has always played an important role in the community.

“The new pitch and training facilities will hopefully attract more people to Barrfields. The aspiration is to see the grounds used throughout the week, by teams, families and even different sports,” he added.

It represents the latest project to be supported by the pair and the £161 million they received last year is still the biggest jackpot taken home by anyone on the EuroMillions – Adrian and Gillian Bayford did win €190 million but exchange rates meant they only got £148 million.

Last month, the Weirs provided the funds for Isabel Wallis to fly to the US for pioneering surgery. The four-year-old has cerebral palsy and the operation represents her only chance of growing up without having to use a wheelchair.

The Weirs also gave £130,000 to fund the construction of a community arts centre in Inverclyde and helped to raise £50,000 so 15-year-old Ross Wilson can go to a tennis academy in Barcelona.

This demonstrates how the Weirs are willing to support a range of different good causes, as they seek to touch as many lives as possible with their money and share their good fortune.

UK Crowns Eighth Lottery Millionaire of 2012 – September 10th, 2012

UK Crowns Eighth Lottery Millionaire of 2012 September 10th, 2012

Lottery players in the UK are enjoying something of a hot streak at the moment.

On Friday (September 7th), a person from the UK won £37 million on the EuroMillions. This means eight individuals from the UK have matched all seven winning numbers in a EuroMillions draw since January 1st, 2012, which is an unbelievable run considering how many different nations compete.

It represents the 14th largest jackpot win ever in the UK and comes hot on the heels of the £148 million handed out to Adrian and Gillian Bayford last month. The size of the win is particularly impressive considering the EuroMillions was only reset to its £11 million starting value after their record haul on August 10th.

A National Lottery spokesman said: “This is amazing. This has been an extraordinary year for UK ticketholders. Over 2,900 people have become millionaires since the National Lottery began and, to date, our players have raised an amazing £28 billion and counting for National Lottery Good Causes.”

Unsurprisingly, people may be tempted to play the EuroMillions online in an effort to join the ever expanding list of winners and see if some of the EuroMillions UK luck will rub off on them.

Unlike many lotteries across the globe, the lucky ticketholder is allowed to stay anonymous if they want to, although it has not been announced whether they will or not. However, many winners choose to go public and face the glare of the media.

Adrian and Gillian Bayford choose this path and they hope to make a real difference with their money. “Children’s charities are close to our hearts so we will be exploring how we can use this money to help those charities,” Ms Bayford remarked shortly after their success.

It remains to be seen what the latest winner will do with their jackpot, but they will certainly not be short of options. Due to the scale of their win, they can afford to stop worrying about having to budget until their next pay check.

The jackpot for tomorrow’s draw now goes back to £11 million, but as previous experience has shown, it does not take long for this value to increase and the UK could soon be looking at its ninth lottery winner of the year!

Can’t Afford To Buy A New House? Then Just Win The EuroMillions! – September 6th, 2012

Cant Afford To Buy A New House? Then Just Win The EuroMillions! September 6th, 2012

A EuroMillions lottery winner is finally going to move out of his mother’s house.

Oliver Milner scooped nearly £2 million after matching five numbers with one Lucky Star on August 10th. The 27-year-old will use part of his winnings to take the plunge and get a place on his own after living at home his whole life.

His mother joked that while she is delighted her son is now financially secure for the foreseeable future, she is much happier about the fact he will be leaving the family home, as it means she will have more space.

Speaking to the Yorkshire Post about his win, Mr Milner said: “I was in shock. It’s what dreams are made of. I asked my mum to check and she thought I was joking. I’m still in shock now.”

It certainly seems as though spending his EuroMillions money will be no problem for the young man, as he already plans to purchase a BMW X6, a Manchester United season ticket and a family holiday.

Mr Milner has already booked a break for himself and his friends to New York as he plans to celebrate his 28th birthday in style, while he quit his job with an energy company as soon as he got his hands on the money.

However, he is not the only person to land a life-changing sum of money in theUK. A lottery jackpot worth almost £4.4 million has finally been claimed in Northern Ireland almost three months after the draw was made.

No details of the winner have been released, but a UK National Lottery spokesman said it is good news that the person has made themselves known. “It would have been awful if the ticket-holder had missed out on this substantial and life-changing amount of money,” he added.

Of course, if the person had bought their lottery ticket through theLotter they would have received three forms of ticket order confirmation – by email, online account and scanned tickets online -  and a winning SMS and email alert should they be successful in any draw.

£148 Million EuroMillions Winner Heads Back To Work – August 30th, 2012

Bayford £148 Million EuroMillions Winner Heads Back To Work August 30th, 2012

Since they won £148 million (€190 million) on the EuroMillions earlier this month, Adrian and Gillian Bayford have seen a dramatic change in their lifestyle.

The couple, who have two young kids, scooped the massive jackpot after a run of 14 consecutive rollovers. However, Mr Bayford has shown he is determined to live as normal a life as possible, as he recently went back to work.

He co-owns a music shop in Surrey and when he returned to the store after a short family break found there was sack loads of mail from well-wishers. However, some of the letters were from people looking for financial assistance.

Speaking to the Cambridge News, Mr Bayford observed it is not possible for the family to get back to everyone, but they will be seeking to back some charity initiatives.

“There are letters here from all over the world, but you can’t help everyone. There have even been people coming over from France and Germany to deliver letters in person. We have some ideas of people we would like to help, but we have not made any decisions yet,” he added.

The Bayfords are planning to stay in the same area and Adrian admitted that people have been great since the announcement. He is hopeful, however, that the media attention on them will die down in the coming weeks and months.

Plenty of seven-figure sums have been handed out by the EuroMillions over the summer and yet another one has come forward. A man from Dorset, who has chosen to remain anonymous, has claimed £1 million from the EuroMillions UK Millionaire Raffle held on the opening night of the Olympic Games.

It saw 100 millionaires made in one night, which is a world record and eclipses the previous mark of 25. Thanks to the man making himself known to UK National Lottery officials, it means 96 of the winners have now been found and it comes after the Paralympic Games opening ceremony was held last night (August 29th).

But this still means there are four people out there with life-changing sums of money waiting on them. Anyone who was entered into that draw should therefore recheck their tickets to see if they were lucky!

EuroMillions UK Winners Enjoying the Millionaire Lifestyle, August 21st, 2012

On August 10th, the lives of Adrian and Gillian Bayford changed forever.

This is because the pair took home £148 million (€190 million) in the EuroMillions Lottery after 14 straight rollovers. Obviously, it is going to take them a long time to spend all that money, but it is safe to say they are now rich enough to make most of their dreams come true.

Once they stepped forward to reveal their identities, unsurprisingly there was a lot of excitement and fanfare, as only Colin and Chris Weir from Largs in Scotland- who pocketed £161 million – have ever won more on the lotto in the UK. Champagne was uncorked, while they flew away from their first press conference in a helicopter.

EuroMillions UK Winners Enjoying the Millionaire Lifestyle, August 21st, 2012

This could be the sign of things to come, but the Bayfords have so far managed to keep their feet firmly on the ground. Their first post-win trip was to a caravan park in Scotland to see Ms Bayford’s parents.

Since then, they have jetted off to an unknown European destination for a family break with their two young children. However, rather than pay for a private jet, they opted for an easyJet flight.

They have also been snapped eating bacon rolls and going to fast food outlets such as McDonalds, which shows they are still being frugal with their money.

The EuroMillions winners have shown themselves to be generous though. According to the Sun, they splashed out £288,000 for a villa inSpainfor Mr Bayford’s brother, while a friend was given a £55,000 Audi Q7.

Because of their new found fame and wealth, the Bayfords have been advised to hire professional bodyguards to protect their kids. A family friend said: “The children are a real worry and any threat to their safety is something Gillian and Adrian are taking very seriously.”

Suffice to say, the last 11 days have been very interesting for the UK’s latest multi-millionaires. If people want to follow in the footsteps of the Bayfords and land themselves a life-changing sum of money, then they should go online and buy EuroMillions UK Lottery tickets for tonight’s (August 21st) draw.

EuroMillions Lottery Rolls Over Topping Millionaire Draw – July 29th, 2012

The Summer Olympic Games are just beginning, and together with them so are the EuroMillions rollovers. As the winning numbers drawn this past Friday’s EuroMillions draw did not match any ticket, the jackpot has once again rolled over for the 11th consecutive time bringing the top prize to a whopping €153 million (£119 million) for the upcoming EuroMillions and EuroMillions UK draw this Tuesday.

The National Lottery has succeeded once again in breaking a world record for the most millionaires in a single night. This occurred Friday, July 27th, the same night of the London 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremony, turning this lottery event into even more of a night to remember. Of the 100 UK Millionaire Raffle winners, up until now only 76 new millionaires have stepped forward to receive their amazing prize from the National Lottery, bringing them each £1 million closer to making their dreams come true. This year marks the third time London is hosting the Olympic games, having done so already in 1908 and 1948, turning it into the city to host the Olympics most frequently in the history of the modern Games. As the world watched on Friday evening, “Isles of Wonder” was the theme for the opening ceremony of the 2012 Olympics, during which about 10,500 athletes are expected to participate from 204 NOCs (National Olympic Committees). The ceremony, celebrating the UK’s contributions to the world in the different aspects of innovation and revolution, ended with the lighting of the gold torch, measuring almost 1 meter, signalizing the beginning of the games.

The Olympics closing ceremony, titled “A Symphony of British Music”, is to be held on August 12th, at 9pm and will feature more than 4,100 performers. This ceremony celebrates the athletes’ achievements in the Games and closes with the extinguishing of the Olympic Flame, symbolizing the wrap up of another summer of records. In addition, the ceremony will include a Handover from one host city to the other, in which London will hand over the 2016 Summer Olympics to Rio de Janeiro, the next city to host the Games.

EuroMillions UK & Olympic Records Just Around the Corner- July 26th, 2012

Less than one day remaining until the biggest event this year – the night we all have been waiting for: the London Olympics 2012 opening ceremony AND the EuroMillions UK Millionaire Raffle both occurring  tomorrow, Friday, July 27th. In this record-breaking event for the most millionaires in one night, the world will greet 100 new millionaires in a single draw, each receiving £1 million.

The Olympic Games are held biennially, alternating Summer and Winter Olympics, meaning each is held once every four years. The Olympic flame, a symbol of the Olympics, originates in ancient Greece, as do the Olympic Games which were first held in Olympia, Greece. The International Olympic Committee (IOC), established in 1894, has since been in charge of all decisions and actions affecting the Games. Throughout the years alternations have been made to the Games, including creating the Winter Olympics, the Paralympic Games for athletes with physical disabilities and the Youth Olympic Games for teenage athletes.

As the suspense mounts towards the millionaire draw, many are excited for the Olympics opening ceremony which will take place at the stadium in East London. This year’s Olympic flame will be led by 70-year-old boxing hero Muhammad Ali. Although sick with Parkinson’s disease, this legend has been asked to lead the parade of all-time great athletes, which will include names such as David Beckham and distance running legend Haile Gebrselassie. Ali, who has already received the honor of carrying the Olympic torch at the Atlanta Games in 1996, is proud to lead this year’s Olympic flame despite his illness and frail health.

Tickets for the raffle are still on sale, for those of you searching for great discounts on lotto online tickets, visit theLotter. In addition, you can visit theLotter Facebook page to view a special contest held in honor of the Olympics and the Millionaire Raffle!

The Euro 2012: UK and Sweden Take the Game off the Field – June 18th, 2012

As the Euro 2012 rages on in Poland and the Ukraine, theLotter’s international lotteries continue to battle it out for the top spots in theSmart and theBig lottery categories, fighting for bigger jackpots and better winning odds. Around the world, impressive lottery results draw as much attention as the biggest games at the Euro!

On Friday night, the UK national team triumphed over the Swedish football team, fueling the countries’ long-standing rivalry on the football field. British team captain, Steven Gerrard, said that the team’s 3-2 win is proof of their ambition and boldness on the field. Even though England entered half-time with a 1-0 lead, Sweden quickly took the lead in the second half, bringing the score to 2-1 just 59 minutes into the game. As the game came to a close, the UK showed its fearless character and scored two goals in minute 64 and 78, making the final score UK 3, Sweden 2.

As the UK advances to the next rounds of the Euro 2012 to play against Ukraine on Tuesday, Sweden has been benched and will not move on in the tournament. Even though Sweden will not progress to the quarter-finals in Poland, the rivalry between the two nations continues in the lottery world. Sweden’s Viking Lotto currently holds the #6 spot in theSmart, boasting a SEK 11,884,000 ($1.7 million) jackpot that could continue to rollover after Wednesday’s draw. The Viking Lotto jackpot, combined with the lottery’s favourable winning odds, ticket cost, tax-free prize, and impressive secondary prize categories, has earned it the sixth spot in the lottery category featuring the lottos with the best cost-benefit ratio.

The UK is also ranked as theLotter’s #6 lottery, but on a different type of list. A £21 million EuroMillions UK jackpot was distributed on Friday night and already the £12 million starting jackpot is the sixth largest lottery prize in the world. With potential to grow until £153 million and previous jackpots like £149 million in 2011 and £126 million in June 2012, there is no stopping the EuroMillions UK once it starts rolling over!

At the end of the England vs. Sweden match on Friday, England’s three goals granted the team its first victory over Sweden. In the lottery competition, the winning results are not as clear-cut. Sweden’s Viking Lotto is dominating theSmart, while EuroMillions UK is moving up the ranks in theBig. Which will reign supreme – playing it safe with theSmart choice, or a taking a chance on theBig? Follow EuroMillions UK, Viking Lotto, and other games at theLotter to find out who will emerge as the champion of Euro 2012!

The Voice Final and EuroMillions Winners Celebrate! – June 4, 2012

The Voice Final and EuroMillions Winners Celebrate! June 4, 2012

The Voice final shook the UK with unbelievable musical talent Saturday night as Leanne Mitchell was crowned the winner of the first season of The Voice UK.  7.1 million viewers watched as she sang heartfelt renditions of James Brown and Whitney Houston’s hits.

Leanne was awarded £100,000 and a record deal with media mogul Universal Republic instantly upon her win, but the prizes are expected to keep pouring in. It is assumed that she will make £1 million in the next year, between her £500,000 recording contract with Universal and estimated profits from The Voice Tour and promotional deals. Mere hours after the final aired, Leanne’s debut single “Run to You” reached the #12 spot on the iTunes pop charts.

Caught in a whirlwind of money and fame, the winner of the Voice Final has stayed remarkably grounded. In many ways, Leanne Mitchell is treating her new fortune with care as is the practice with many lotto online winners. A high-school dropout, Leanne has been supporting herself as a singer at Potters Leisure Resort in Norfolk since age 16 and even though her new record deal and prize money will certainly allow her to pay the bills and live luxuriously, she insists on keeping her old job as a “fall-back”, just in case she needs additional income. She plans to use her money responsibly and focus on her singing career instead of splashing out excessive material goods.

Leanne Mitchell was not the only newly minted millionaire in the UK this weekend. Between the Saturday night UK National Lottery draw and the Friday evening EuroMillions UK lottery results, there were thousands of lottery wins this weekend, including one EuroMillions UK Millionaire Raffle £1 million winner and one recipient of a £ 4,392,003 UK National Lottery jackpot!

EuroMillions continued to rollover and its huge jackpot has reached new heights – €132 million. There were 6 second prize winners in Friday night’s draw, each walking away £340,774 richer and thousands of winners in the lottery’s 12 secondary prize divisions. In total, EuroMillions UK distributed £7,956,815.90 in cash prizes to the lottery’s 4,546,468 UK winners in Friday night’s draw. That huge prize amount does not include the £1 million doled out to the lucky Millionaire Raffle winner whose ticket matched the combination KQZ010341 and made him an instant millionaire.

At the same time as Leanne was singing her heart out in The Voice Final, the lottery results for the UK National Lottery 2012/1716 draw were announced and one ticket matched all of the numbers drawn: 16, 18, 20, 25, 29, and 34! The winner took home an impressive £ 4,392,003, nearly four times larger than the previous National Lottery jackpot win, £ 563,449.

With the excitement of The Voice Final, the EuroMillions UK jackpot rising above €100 million, the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, and the upcoming London 2012 Olympic games, the UK is buzzing with energy. NBA Draft Lottery Turns Losers to Lottery Winners – June 4, 2012

NBA Draft Lottery Turns Losers to Lottery Winners June 4, 2012

In the NBA Draft Lottery, Broadway musical lotteries, and school enrolment lotteries, lotto winners don’t walk away with cash prizes like the current $177 million Powerball jackpot. In these lotteries, a first place win might mean acquiring the drafting rights to amateur college basketball players, discounted tickets to the critically-acclaimed musical, Wicked, or a spot for your child in a competitive public charter school. While these lotteries do not contain rollovers, secondary prize divisions, or bonus numbers, their “jackpot” prizes are oftentimes priceless to the entrants –winning odds are slim!

The first round of the NBA Lottery took place last Wednesday and the New Orleans Hornets were the clear jackpot winners, snagging the first pick in the upcoming player selection process. The annual NBA Draft lottery gives the 14 National Basketball Association (NBA) teams who did not advance to the playoffs a chance to bolster their teams with new eligible players, mostly the stars of US college basketball.

The 14 worst NBA teams are entered into the NBA Draft Lottery in order to give them the chance to draft new stars and strengthen their teams. In this case, the teams with the worst records are given better winning odds in the lottery! Unlike completely randomized lotteries like SuperEnalotto or EuroMillions, the NBA’s lottery offers the teams with the season’s worst performance the best lottery odds. Each team receives a percentage of number combinations out of 1000 pulled from the lottery draw, according to their performance in the previous season.  Last season, the Charlotte Bobcats were ranked in last place as the worst team, and so they received 250 combinations, giving them a 25% chance of receiving the #1 pick. However, the Bobcats will have to settle for second place this year as the fourth ranked team, the New Orleans Hornets, took the number one spot with only an 11.9% chance of winning!

Over in the arts world, the lottery for winning discounted front-row tickets for some of Broadway’s biggest musicals is completely randomized and each entrant receives equal chances of winning. Smash-hit shows like Wicked, Godspell, and The Book of Mormon offer spontaneous theatre-goers the opportunity to submit their names to be entered in a lottery drum two and a half hours prior to each performance. Two hours before the performance, a handful of lucky names are randomly selected from the drum and offered two tickets ranging from $25 to $32 for the show! With tickets running up to $400, the reward is huge especially considering that entering is free! Read more

UK Celebrates with Jubilee Pudding and £1 Million Prizes – May 29, 2012

UK Celebrates with Jubilee Pudding and £1 Million Prizes May 29, 2012

It is Jubilee pudding time in the UK as the country gears up for Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee weekend, celebrating 60 years since years since her accession to the throne of England. The entire country will celebrate the queen’s birthday and long tenure of power with a four-day celebratory weekend starting June 3rd, complete with a Diamond Jubilee Pageant, Concert at Buckingham Palace and street parties and picnic lunches throughout the country! The UK even set up a special lottery online called the Big Lottery Fund, which donates funding to specific projects and charities.

A Diamond Jubilee does not come around every year. In fact, Queen Elizabeth II is only the second monarch to reign long enough to receive a Diamond Jubilee –Queen Victoria preceded her in 1897. Britain is in party mode, preparing for the government-sanctioned street parties and neighbourhood lunches to take place right after the stunning maritime parade complete with 1,000 boats.

So, what’s on the menu for the neighbourhood gatherings happening across the UK? High tea salads with beetroot and watercress, smoked ham and cucumber salad, beef wellington, Mary’s Royal Cherry Trifle, and of course, the Jubilee pudding – a royal feast. While there are many variations on the regal Jubilee pudding, we recommend a Diamond Jubilee Strawberry Crumble Crunch to coincide with the beginning of strawberry season in the British countryside.

As if the queen’s birthday and acclaimed career are not enough to celebrate, London is gearing up to host the Olympics in July and August. London is the only city to host three modern Olympic Games and despite its readiness and expertise, the excitement in London is palpable. The entire country has come together to build new sports facilities and prepare for July, thanks in a great part to funding from the UK National Lottery.

To show its appreciation to the British people for their patronage and constant support leading up to the Olympics, the UK National Lottery will hold a special event of hitherto unseen  proportions on the night of the opening ceremonies, July 27th , when there will be a EuroMillions UK Millionaire Raffle Super Draw unlike any before. A Christmas Eve, 2010, Millionaire Raffle Super Draw distributed 25 £1 million prizes and a Super Draw on May 18, 2012 created 18 new millionaires. However, the lottery will award an unprecedented 100 £1 million prizes on the first night of the Olympics! The UK certainly knows how to carry out a jubilee!

Here at theLotter, we didn’t want to miss out on the jubilee pudding. So, in celebration of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and London’s exciting summer ahead, theLotter is offering yet another UK-based lottery to its ranks. In addition to EuroMillions, UK Thunderball and the UK National Lottery, the UK Millionaire Raffle will soon be featured on the site! With one EuroMillions UK ticket, you can enter for the chance to win a huge EuroMillions jackpot and your ticket will automatically participate in a £1 million raffle! theLotter is channeling England’s festivities and bringing the celebration to lottery fans worldwide.

The latest EuroMillions UK Millionaire Raffle winner, Fraser Ewing, has been crowned “Scotland’s Luckiest Man”. Not only was Ewing in possession of one of the 18 winning tickets for the Millionaire Super Raffle Draw on Friday, May 18, but his favourite football club, the Hearts, won the coveted Scottish Cup just one day later. Ewing exclaimed, “It doesn’t get any better than this. I just saw my team smash Hibs off the park and I won a million quid. I’m pretty happy.”

Ewing realized his big win when he checked his numbers just before going to bed on Friday night. He was too excited to sleep, thinking of the endless possibilities his new windfall would bring. Ewing lives with his mother, who is diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. He was elated by the thought that his lottery win would ensure that his mother is well cared for.

After a sleepless night, Ewing headed to the Hampden stadium to watch his team, Hearts, beat cross-town Edinburgh rivals, Hibs, 5 goals to 1. Ewing threw a party to celebrate the weekend’s amazing football and lottery results at his local favourite pub and planned to bring his ticket to the official EuroMillions UK office after the celebrations died down.

Ewing was not the only one in the UK who had a great weekend. Friday night’s UK Millionaire Super Raffle produced 18 £1 million winners, who are slowly coming out of the woodwork. The UK National Lottery is encouraging all lottery ticket holders from Friday night’s draw to re-examine the 9-digit code on the bottom of their ticket to see if their unique number-letter sequence matches the winning combinations! Ewing is the 6th identified winner, meaning that one-third of the prizes have been claimed.

Fans of the EuroMillions UK Millionaire Raffle can look forward to entering the exciting draw, which combines both EuroMillions and the Millionaire Raffle, in the near future at theLotter. Stay tuned for updates and look for EuroMillions UK among the list of 43 international lotteries offered at theLotter!
