I didn’t know what to do with my ticket, so after hiding it in my bra and jewellery box, I settled for my gym bag until it was confirmed I was a winner.”

A lucky (or unlucky) $6.6 million Lotto jackpot winner have had their names revealed in the USA after a judge ruled in favor of the state lottery that lottery jackpot winners cannot now claim their winnings anonymously.
Last week after over 10 months of a temporary injunction that sealed the identity of Michele and Michael Villegas was supposed to be lifted, the names were released to the public. Whilst the couple fought for privacy, the state lottery board won their day in court and the names were publicized.
One of the assumed reasons for the request for anonymity and the subsequent legal battle is that the amount that the couple won is believed to be a local record.
Picture the scene, you beat the odds and win the lottery jackpot. Now imagine this scene, you have no idea you’ve won!
Strange as it sounds, every year millions of dollars of lottery / loto winnings go unclaimed around the world. In all of the worlds strange twists of fate, in my mind this ranks the highest. You could be living in the city or the country side and if you had just double checked your ticket or saved it from your jeans pocket before putting them in wash, you could be sitting pretty on a large sum of cash. But for many this is not meant to be.
Its been reported that last year in the USA alone more than $600 million in lottery winnings were unclaimed. Enough to salvage the average high street bank
In California, $29 million went unclaimed during the 2006-07 fiscal year. And it could soon go up an additional $166,599.
In American Lottery News, an Ottawa lottery player became the lucky winner of the Super 7o lotery draw winning a cool $2.5 Million Jackpot. The winner, Carolyn Tweede has become Ottawa’s latest millionaire after winning her jackpot last week.
Carolyne said she buys a single ticket every week and has done for quite a few years. Eventually her patience paid off and the Ottawa resident finally saw her numbers come rolling in with her her first win ever.
Mrs. Tweede, 62, said there will be no major lifestyle changes for her and her husband. “We’re just gonna help our kids and invest it,” she said. “We’ll maybe take a trip or two,” she laughed.
Seven years ago, Mrs. Tweede retired from The Ottawa Hospital, where she worked as a nurse.
She plans to continue working at her job in a doctor’s office.
This is both a heart warming and sad story of a lottery winner from the Florida State Lotto
On September 3, 1988, Sheelah Ryan of Winter Springs made Florida Lottery history when she won the then largest Lottery prize ever awarded to an individual player. Ryan the 10th FLORIDA LOTTO™ winner won $55.16 million when she chose the numbers, 3, 5, 19, 20, 27 and 35.
With her Lottery winnings, Ryan developed the Sheelah Ryan Foundation Inc., a charity that helps many people in Seminole County – senior citizens, abused spouses, and women and children struggling to survive. The foundation also provides scholarships to students in Seminole County schools.
In 1994, at age 69, Ryan lost her fight with cancer. However, through the efforts of her family members, close friends and funds provided by her Lottery winnings, Ryan’s philanthropic vision lives on.

Prance and wife Gillian, also 50, left their terraced house in Splott, Cardiff, and now live in a £64,000 luxury caravan in the seaside resort of Trecco Bay, Porthcawl.
