A family from Gosnells inWestern Australia have kicked off their new year in the best possible way – with an extra Au$1 million in the bank.
The household won the generous payout playing the Australia Wednesday Lotto draw last week (January 25th).
Excited about their sudden windfall, the proud lottery fans have said they can hardly believe they can now call themselves millionaires and are hoping to pay off the house with their cash.
Furthermore, the family is planning to put some of the money aside for their children’s futures and intend to throw a big party to share their good fortune with their relatives and loved ones.
Andy O’Leary, who owns the West Gosnells Newsagency that sold the winning lottery ticket, said the local area had been buzzing due to the fact their neighbours had struck lucky playing Australia Wednesday Lotto.
“We have just made someone a millionaire and that’s the best feeling in the world,” he said.
And the Australian lotto has also made another household Au$1 million richer at the beginning of 2012, as a couple from Pannawonica – which is also in Western Australia – only recently collected their seven-figure prize after striking lucky on the January 9th draw.
One of the pair said he and his other half only found out they were winners when word started to spread in town that a local store had sold a winning lottery ticket – and he then called his wife at home to check the numbers.
“We couldn’t sleep for the first few days after finding out the exciting news. This is just the icing on the cake for us,” the couple said.
They added that the first thing they would do with their cool million is pay off their mortgage and help their immediate family – and afterwards they want to just relax and set the rest aside for their retirement.
