Megamillion » Player with winning numbers for Mega Millions ‘yet to step forward’ – January 5th 2012

Lottery fans and the press are clamouring for the player with the winning numbers for the Mega Millions lotto jackpot draw on December 27th to step forward – because they are now entitled to a huge $206 million fortune.
Very little is known about who this new multi-millionaire is, but it is believed they are a resident of Long Island, New York.
Perhaps the winner is getting used to the idea of having such a life-changing sum of money appear unexpectedly like this, because so far officials at the New York Lottery have not yet heard anything from anybody claiming to own the golden ticket.
Spokesman Alex Traverso told the Appeal Democrat that it is not unusual for those who win enormous jackpots to wait a few days or weeks before coming forward to collect their payout.
He said that not enough time has elapsed since the draw to be concerned that the lottery ticket has gone unnoticed in a handbag or jeans pocket.
“When it goes a month or two months, then you think maybe the person misplaced their ticket,” Mr Traverso added.
The lottery official revealed that recently a man had routinely gone into a local shop to buy his tickets for that week and check the previous few draw’s numbers when he realised he had scooped a six-figure sum playing the lotto.
He suggested this latest USAMega Millions champion may also have a similar habit, hence the delay.
In addition to the top prize, there were five lotto players who won the second prize by matching five correct regular numbers but missing out on the Mega Ball.
This mean five lucky people in Los Angeles and Tustin have started the new year $250,000 richer.
