It was one of the most fervently coveted jackpots available for the taking, but on Friday, the EuroMillions results made two ticketholders multi-millionaires.
The Euro lotto top prize had been rolling over since December 16th, with the six draws in between then and last week’s win boosting the top prize to more than €73 million.
Now, the lucky lottery fans will be splitting this enormous payout between them, meaning they get to take home a fortune of over €36 million apiece.
Not much is known about these fortunate players except for the fact that one of the individuals bought their lottery ticket in Spain and the other in France, but as they only won their enormous cash prizes a matter of days ago, they may yet decide to go public and reveal their plans for the future.
Coincidentally, the last EuroMillions jackpot winner was also Spanish, with the lucky player landing more than €46 million when they got all the right numbers in their entry for the December 16th draw after a triple rollover.
Before that, a EuroMillions top prize was shared between a Spanish lotto fan and a British person after the October 21st draw last year, with the pair splitting that €48 million between them.
Spain’s biggest Euro lotto winner last year claimed their €105 million prize following the May 13th draw, but it was a French player who won one of the largest jackpot sums going in 2011, with an anonymous lottery player from Calvados taking home over €162 million in September.
Before that, a fortunate fan from France claimed EuroMillions top prizes worth €27.6 million in May and €23 in July, while a Spanish person netted a €28 million windfall back in February.
Now the EuroMillions jackpot has reset to €15 million and lotto fans can choose the numbers for their lottery ticket online at theLotter to make sure their entries are primed and ready in time for the next draw.
People can play to be in with a chance of winning tonight (January 10th) and could also enter their lucky numbers on Friday, when the second draw of the week is scheduled to take place.
