USA Powerball fans may already be aware of some of the big changes that are going to transform the game this month, but there may well be many lottery players who are unaware of the alterations.

From January 15th, the famous lottery is set to offer better odds and even bigger prizes, giving players great value for money in-line with the new lottery ticket pricing system.

The new USA Powerball system will result in more millionaires.

Jackpots are being inflated from the starting sum of $20 million to a whopping $40 million.

What’s more is that following every rollover, these jackpots will increase to the tune of $10 million, which could see these massive windfalls rise in value by 50 per cent in the space of one week, as draws currently take place on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 23:00 local time.

Furthermore, the prize for choosing numbers that match five regular balls drawn in a game will be given a really big boost, driving up the windfall available from $200,000 to $1 million.

In addition, the Match 5 prize with the additional Power Play option will increase from the current $1 million payout to $2 million.

These changes mean there will be three times as many millionaires thanks to USA Powerball than there are at the moment.

Playing the game

Lottery ticket prices from regular outlets will be going up by $1, while the Power Play option will also be rising to $1.

But, the way lottery fans play the game will stay more or less the same.

Players will still choose their first five numbers from between 1 to 59, but for the Powerball number, individuals will choose between 1 and 35 – not 39 – increasing their odds of taking home a fabulous prize.

Additionally, the Power Play option will no longer be a multiplier, but will award fixed prizes – with second place prizes with the Power Play set at a cool $1 million.
