According to Perth Now, the retired lottery enthusiasts decided to buy the tickets on the spur of the moment, popping into a shop while enjoying a getaway in the south-west of the country.

However, neither the husband nor wife realised they had struck gold until they remembered to check their three lines of numbers when they arrived home this week – the third and final of which turned out to be a winner.

The woman said: “I kept checking the numbers again and again. When I finally realised we had all six numbers I yelled, ‘Yippee!’”

These travel-mad two have already decided how they will spend their winnings, deciding to invest in a new caravan to enjoy more cross country adventures.

Furthermore, the lotto windfall has come just in time for the festive season.

They said: “It will be an extra special Christmas for the whole family this year.”

The couple also claimed the lottery payout will help them achieve the retirement they have always wanted, which is one that is stress-free and full of travelling.
