Lottery fans may be keen to hear the good causes that have been honoured at the UK National Lottery Awards, which celebrated the lotto funding that has gone to better the communities and those in need.

Hosted by Myleene Klass, the Daily Telegraph-sponsored ceremony recognised Northern Ballet and Phoenix Dance Theatre in Leeds as the best arts projects, while online literacy scheme for boys with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy – Include Duchenne – won the best education initiative prize.

Bluebird Care Hampshire’s Disability Cricket Programme was recognised for its efforts in the sporting field, while Hands that Talk – which provides sign language courses for deaf people in Derry – was named the best voluntary project.

Klass stated: “National Lottery players raise £30 million every week for large and small projects across the UK.”

Recently, chief executive of UK National Lottery operator Camelot Dianne Houghton told the Liverpool Daily Post she is pleased the lottery continues to be popular, because it means more lotto funding can go to good causes.
