EuroMillions winners ‘blow €185,000 on cars for friends’ – November 23rd 2011

This summer’s record-smashing EuroMillions winners – Christine and Colin Weir from Largs in Scotland – have lavished €185,000 on new cars for their friends.

According to the Daily Record, the couple – who scooped €185 million in July playing the European lottery – have snapped up six vehicles on sale at a local Suzuki dealership, keeping two of the Japanese autos for themselves.

Their choice of car could be proof that the multimillionaires are relatively down to earth, given that their incredible wealth could afford them the world’s most expensive car, a €1.4 million Aston Martin One77.

In addition to buying Suzukis, the Weirs let one friend choose his own new set of wheels and picked up the bill for the black €92,000 Mercedes when he had decided what he wanted.

An insider close to the pair told the newspaper: “Since their incredible win, they have helped out lots of friends but have done so discreetly. They don’t want any fuss but they have always been generous.”

Indeed, the recipient of one of the Suzukis the Weirs purchased has claimed the lotto win will not change them and by purchasing cars from local showrooms they are also doing the region’s economy some good.
