Canadian Lotto 649 winner ‘will use prize to help with medical bills’ – November 1st 2011

For many people, a lotto win gives them the chance to go on a luxury holiday or buy the sports car they have always wanted – but for one Moncton lottery fan, the payout will give him peace of mind.

Speaking to the Journal Pioneer, Henry Woodward – who won C$100,000 playing Canadian Lotto 649 on October 13th – said the cash will help him and his wife afford to pay for his treatment for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

His medication costs as much as $15,000 annually, with his wife Cathy running a hairdressing business from their home to pay the bills.

“[It] couldn’t have come at a nicer time,” Mr Woodward stated.

The lucky lottery winner and his wife will be giving some of his winnings to relatives and will also help finance their granddaughter’s education.

Last month, a lottery fan from Toronto won C$50 million playing her favourite Canadian lottery – which could entice others to enter their favourite North American games such as Canadian Lotto 649.
