USA Mega Millions ‘offers hope to those struggling financially’ – September 5th 2011

It appears lotto fans around the world are turning to the activity – including the USA Mega Millions – as a way to see them through the current economic climate.

Indeed, ticket sales for 28 of the 41 state lotteries ending their fiscal year in June 2011 were greater than that recorded over the same period last year, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Moreover, all-time sales records were broken in 17 of the regions – suggesting such number games are being viewed as a beacon of hope for those finding times difficult in the aftermath of the global economic downturn.

Kate Sweeney, assistant professor of psychology at the University of California-Riverside – which is located in Inland Southern California – said it is commonplace for greater numbers of people to start playing lottery games whenever they feel that large events, such as a global recession, are out of their own control.
