UK lottery success for those in the north-east – September 13th 2011

Individuals living in the north-east of England may want to make sure they keep buying lottery tickets online after it was revealed the region is the luckiest in the UK for players of the numbers game.

Camelot, which has a contract to operate the National Lottery until 2019, has revealed the area is home to a higher proportion of lotto winners than anywhere else in the country, with 164 people – which equates to one in every 14,211 residents – becoming a new millionaire thanks to the game since its introduction in 1994.

However, those living elsewhere across the UK should not be deterred from entering the lotto on a regular basis, as it was shown those collecting the jackpot come from all corners of the nation.

Wales came second in the list of lucky regions, with 179 new millionaires, while Yorkshire placed third with one in every 16,060 residents scooping a seven-figure win.

A spokesman from the National Lottery said: “This map gives a fascinating insight into the spread of millionaires and multi-millionaires but anyone can win – it’s a lottery.”
