Colorado State Lottery ticket sales have seen a 3.5 per cent jump in 2011 compared with last year and suggest playing the lottery is being viewed by many as an attempt to help them through a struggling economy.

Moreover, while a big main prize is always welcome, lottery officials in the state said players do not always require a large jackpot because they know a win of any kind will be of great benefit.

The news comes after the Chicago Sun-Times reported that lottery ticket sales for 28 of the 41 state lotteries ending in June 2011 were greater than those witnessed across the same period last year.
