Lottery fund ‘gives veterans the chance to revisit battle sites’ – September 14th 2011

Scottish World War II veterans have been given the opportunity to revisit the battle sites where they fought for king and country in their youth thanks to lottery finances, which could be of interest to online lotto fans keen to know what good causes their favourite games support.

The Big Lottery Fund’s Scotland chair Alison Magee said today (September 14th) that the Heroes Return programme will allow those who served in the conflict nearly 70 years ago to reflect on the sacrifices and efforts they made.

“We are proud to have been able to play a small part in their story and hope all of these trips help to keep the lessons of the past alive for today’s generation,” she stated.

Veterans from the UK, Republic of Ireland and the Channel Islands who are interested in this lottery-funded opportunity have until January 2012 to apply to revisit the battlefields, as demand for the lotto-financed scheme has resulted in these trips being made until December next year.

This week, the Big Lottery Fund announced it has awarded £263,706 to allotments in the north-east of England, with hopes to transform growing areas and finance bee-keeping projects and cultivating ponds.
