Minneapolis couple take home $228.9 million in USA Powerball winnings – August 16th 2011

A couple from the US state of Minneapolis have struck gold playing USA Powerball, as the lucky twosome have scooped the game’s massive $228.9 million jackpot.

Tom and Kathleen Morris had been discussing retirement and had planned to work for a couple more years before living off their pension, but always said they would start their life of leisure sooner if they won the lottery.

And as luck would have it, they did!

According to his wife, Mr Morris is a frequent USA Powerball player and usually buys three lotto tickets, but fortunately this time he decided to splash out on five – the fourth of which turned out to be a winner.

Mrs Morris said: “We have a lot of friends that have added that it couldn’t have happened to a nicer couple and that was nice to hear so we’re happy.”

Earlier this month, lucky lotto fan Randy Wagner from Grubbs, Arkansas, became the state’s newest millionaire after winning a cool $1 million playing USA Powerball.
