Couple wait 5 weeks to collect EuroMillions winnings – August 2nd 2011

A couple from the Caithness town of Wick in the Scottish Highlands have finally collected their EuroMillions winnings after five weeks.

According to the BBC, Angela Sutherland wanted to wait for her husband John to come home from working on an offshore oil and gas rig so they could claim their €324,950 lotto prize together.

Ms Sutherland admitted the five weeks were the longest of her life and told the news source: “I kept the ticket locked away in a safe, but kept going back to check the numbers again and again to make sure it was real.”

The National Lottery in the UK made a public appeal when the lotto prize was not immediately collected.

Ms Sutherland said the couple are looking forward to a holiday, paying off their mortgage and buying a new car.

And lottery lovers who want to be in with a chance of a EuroMillions payout for themselves can play tonight (August 2nd).
