A veteran police officer and lottery fan from Fort Wayne in the US state of Indiana has scooped a whopping $1 million prize playing USA Hoosier Lottery.

Jack Woodruff and his wife Debra matched the first five numbers drawn in the July 1st game and went to collect their winnings from the state’s lottery office in Indianapolis last week.

Mr Woodruff has revealed that his lotto payout spells a lifetime of freedom and spending more time with the couple’s children and grandchildren.

He said: “The freedom is the best thing. We love our life. We have a good life. We have been fortunate in a lot of ways. We have a great family.”

The pair have set their sights on retirement and enjoying the rest of their lives with their sons, daughters and grandkids thanks to their USA Hoosier Lottery win.
