Eight UK parks to benefit from £15.9 million lottery investment – July 12th 2011

Eight parks in the UK are to benefit from £15.9 million in lottery investment, which could serve to demonstrate some of the community-spirited work lotto companies do.

The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) has confirmed it has earmarked £12.4 million for public green spaces in London, Felixstowe, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Dunbarton and Merseyside, while the HLF and Big Lottery Funds have jointly allocated £3.5 million to two more in Godalming and Nottingham.

Television presenter and gardening expert Alan Titchmarsh said he welcomed the lotto-generated finances and hoped the improvements made to them would mean many further generations would be able to enjoy them.

Chief executive of the HLF Carole Souter said: “Lottery funding continues to provide an essential source of investment for our parks and is ensuring that they remain at the heart of their local communities.”

Earlier this year, £3.4 million in lottery money was awarded to the Hampshire-based submarine HMS Alliance – the only one of its kind from the second world war to still be open to the public.
