British lotto player wins €185 million EuroMillions jackpot – July 13th 2011

A lottery fan from the UK has won €185 million in last night’s (July 12th’s) EuroMillions lotto draw, making them Europe’s biggest ever winner.

It has not been revealed where in the UK this lucky soul is based, nor if the lotto ticket was bought by an individual or by a group syndicate, but if the winning numbers were picked by one person then they will be catapulted instantly to 430th on the Sunday Times Rich List.

In addition to the EuroMillions making one fortunate Brit €185 million richer, it has also made two more UK-based people millionaires – as two players with five matching numbers and one lucky star are each taking home €1.94 million.

A spokesman for the lottery said: “This is amazing news – we are absolutely delighted that a UK ticket-holder has scooped the entire €185 million jackpot.”

The EuroMillions lotto draw reached an almighty climax last night after 14 rollovers.

Ticket purchases were predicted to have peaked in the afternoon at a frantic rate of 900 sales per second, according to the Daily Mirror.
