Idaho couple claim $1 million lotto win – June 8th 2011

A retired couple from Hayden in Idaho have won $1 million in the USA Mega Millions draw, driving eight hours from their home to the lottery headquarters to pick up their cheque.

Clifford and Helena Jordan – who met when they were in high school and have been married for 50 years – are the third $1 million or higher lottery winners this year who hail from northern Idaho.

Ms Jordan said she had heard friends discussing the big lotto win and how the lucky player was from the region. “You just think it’s never going to be you. But it was,” she remarked.

“Life’s going to be so much better now,” Ms Jordan went on to say, while her husband noted that they intend to make their prize pot last.

Their lotto win continues the state’s lucky streak – in the last 15 months, eastern Idaho has seen six USA Powerball winners take home at least $200,000.
