100% of Missouri Lottery profits donated to public education – June 23rd 2011

The Missouri Lottery – which runs games like the USA Mega Millions – has revealed that 100 per cent of profits from its ticket sales are sunk back into public education.

After making a transfer of $20.9 million on June 17th, the organisation’s contributions passed the $4 billion mark, exceeding its annual proceeds goal in the 2011 financial year.

In all, it handed over $259.4 million – $4.3 million more than in 2010.

Executive director of the company May Scheve Reardon put this down to the fact that the lottery has become “much more visible” in the last 12 months, thanks to traditional marketing strategies and sponsoring sports teams such as the St Louis Cardinals.

“This year our goal was to raise $259 million for public education and we are proud to say we not only met but exceeded that goal by nearly a half a million dollars,” she remarked.

Lotto players have also benefited from the Missouri Lottery. In May, the business awarded over $9.4 million in prizes, with one person claiming a $250,000 Mega Millions prize.
