Powerball winners collect $1 million – April 20th 2011

A group of 26 people who hit the big time on the USA Powerball game have come forward to collect their winnings, with each of them walking away with $25,700 after tax.

All five numbers except the Powerball were matched and a cool $1 million claimed, with Al Rathsack – one of the lucky winners – telling NBC26 that nobody believed they had hit the big time and thought it was an April Fool’s.

Co-workers Greg Jahnke, who will also be banking $25,700, added that his own wife didn’t think it was true.

“I called my wife at 06:00 in the morning. She said ‘yeah, right’ and hung up on me,” he recalled.

In order to play Powerball, gamers must be 18 years old or above, with weekly draws taking place every Wednesday and Saturday nights at 22:59 USA EST. The drawings are carried out at Universal Studios in Florida and there is no residency requirement to either play or win.
