Powerball jackpot largest in 10 months

The US Powerball multi-state lottery’s jackpot is now the largest it has been in ten months after Saturday’s (April 2^nd‘s) draw saw no one claim the top prize.

People will now be fighting it out for a share of the $218 million pot, with the next draw due to take place on Wednesday this week, the Lottery Post reports.

The last time the jackpot reached this level was in June 2010, when one ticket holder took home a cool $262 million, claiming the prize anonymously as a lump-sum payout of $134.9 million.

For an extra $1, people can also opt for a Power Play, which bumps up non-jackpot wins by the Power Play number drawn – if a second-prize win is seen, the amount is always multiplied by five.

One lucky lady who hit the big time playing Powerball is Bobbi Hubbard of Tennessee who, according to the Associated Press, won $25.5 million in 2005, making her the biggest winner in the state ever.
