The 52-year-old man, whose name wasn’t released by Maryland Lottery officials, was preparing to pay his truck insurance Dec. 18 when he happened upon the ticket that he had bought in June.
“I was going through my insurance papers, and saw the Mega Millions ticket.”
After finding his ticket, he remembered an article he saw about a big prize that hadn’t been claimed, but he just shrugged it off. “I figured it had been claimed by now,” he said.
The winner confirmed the US$ 250,000 win by checking the Maryland Lottery website and calling the lottery claims center to find out if he calculated the 182-day claiming period correctly.
“When I realized I won, I was speechless,” he told lottery officials. “Then, the biggest smile came across my face.”
With his winnings, he said he plans to donate to a charity, help family, invest and take a vacation.
With no winner in sight in Italy, the jackpot continues to rise. For today’s draw the jackpot has broken the 110 Million Euro mark.

MILAN, Dec 21 (Reuters) – Italy’s antitrust authority has widened its inquiry into the way unlisted Italian company Sisal SpA allows other operators to sell its SuperEnalotto lottery game online, the authority said on Monday.
The authority, which launched its original inquiry in July, is now querying the terms of the access agreement Sisal has with rival companies, it said in its decision.
Lottomatica SpA (LTO.MI) and Snai SpA (SNAI.MI) sell SuperEnalotto online, according to their websites, but neither was able to comment further immediately.
“(The terms) limit commercial initiatives at non-Sisal remote sales points thus creating discrimination between Sisal and others authorised to gather (SuperEnalotto bets),” it said.
Sisal’s SuperEnalotto game has performed strongly this year, particularly ahead of a record 147.8 million-euro ($211.8 million) jackpot in August.
The ticket of the unknown winner, matched all six numbers in the Tuesday Mega Millions drawing to win a US$ 162 Million jackpot!
The grand prize had been steadily growing since Nov.10 when two tickets matched all six numbers.
In the last draw, there was only one winning ticket. The winner can choose to take the US$ 162 Million jackpot as a 29-year annuity or as a lump-sum cash payout of US$ 102 Million.
According to the analysis, the after-tax payout to a New York resident for the lump-sum cash option would be US$ 67,350,600, which accounts for the 25% federal and 8.97% state tax withholdings.
In addition to the big jackpot winner, 9 lucky players matched the first 5 numbers for a US$ 250,000 prize.
The lottery may be a game of chance that has drained the pockets of more than its fair share of average income-earners, but the fact is, the lottery has its appeal that has people lining up at the ticket outlets.
Practically every country has their own lottery game provider each with their own game types and rules, however in general the concept remains the same across all borders. A set of numbered balls are randomly selected from a machine to comprise a winning combination. The lucky gambler who is lucky enough or psychic enough to match all the drawn numbers win the jackpot prize.
With the growth of the Internet, betting on the lottery has opened each country to the the global markets. Now anyone from anywhere in the world can participate in the national lotteries of the different countries in the world , such an American playing the UK lottery or a Brit playing the SuperEnalotto.
Global ticketing sites such as ours at theLotter can buy your tickets on your behalf for any global lottery. Participating in the online lottery works this way:
· You sign up for an account at theLotter.
· You choose your preferred lottery game.
· You choose your numbers according to game rules.
· We go buy your ticket.
· You wait to see if you win.
Since it is a game of chance, gamblers may not be as hopeful about increasing their chances at winning. But lottery experts are wont to say that applying a bit of math can, in fact, increase your chances simply by playing a number system entry, like betting on a 15-number entry system instead of a six-number entry system.
But playing a numbers system can be expensive, so you might just want to stick to the more popular lottery games.
Its the middle of the December month for theLotter SuperEnalotto Italia fever. So we think it’s about time we gave you the low down on the chances you have of winning the jackpot. First you have to be in iti to win it, which means you need to select your 6 balls from the available choice of 90.
The 6 winning numbers are taken from the first number drawn in all of Italy’s regional Lottomatica’s draws held in Bari, Florence, Palermo, Naples, Rome and Milan plus a Jolly number from the Venice draw. If two identical numbers are first out in any of the two draws then the subsequent ball becomes the lottery number for that town.
There are six ways to win the “SuperEnalotto Italia”, match 6 numbers for the jackpot, 5 and the Jolly number, 5 numbers, 4 numbers or 3 numbers to win a cash prize. The game jackpot starts at €1.3 million and continues to rise and rollover like our own National Lottery until it is won.
Given that the aim is to match 6 numbers from a massive 60 available, Italy’s SuperEnalotto is one of the hardest lotteries in the world to win; the odds of matching all of the 6 numbers to win the jackpot are 1 in 622,614,630.
If you want your chance to win over 100 million euros, visit theLotter and buy your SuperEnalotto Italia tickets online today.
