Buying Lottery Tickets Online – A Sad Story

  by: admin - Category:

Here’s a sad story about an unfortunate lottery winner.

An elderly man who decided against buying his lottery tickets online was taken to Danville Regional Medical Center after he won $100 from the Virginia Lottery only to be beaten and robbed of the money when he left the store, police say.

The 74-year-old man, who police declined to identify, had cashed in his jackpot lotto ticket from a scratch ticket purchased at Ma Hollins on South Main Street at about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. He was crossing the store’s parking lot when a man approached, assaulted him and took his lottery winnings, according to a news release from the Danville Police Department.

Winnings of up to $600 can be claimed at a Virginia Lottery retailer, but higher amounts must be cashed in at one of several regional lottery offices across the state, Hagerty said.

And so the moral to this sad story is that it’s always safer to buy your lotto tickets online so you can also claim the winnings online!
