9. Washington Lottery Winners cannot be anonymous

A lucky (or unlucky) $6.6 million Lotto jackpot winner have had their names revealed in the USA after a judge ruled in favor of the state lottery that lottery jackpot winners cannot now claim their winnings anonymously.

Last week after over 10 months of a temporary injunction that sealed the identity of Michele and Michael Villegas was supposed to be lifted, the names were released to the public. Whilst the couple fought for privacy, the state lottery board won their day in court and the names were publicized.

One of the assumed reasons for the request for anonymity and the subsequent legal battle is that the amount that the couple won is believed to be a local record.
