EuroMillions UK History
Britain was one of the three original EuroMillions founders to launch the multi-country EuroMillions lottery in 2004 together with France and Spain. Later, Austria, Belgium, Ireland, Luxembourg, Portugal and Switzerland joined the lottery, which has produced record-high jackpots of £147.5 Million in February and November 2006 and £149 Million in July, 2011.
EuroMillions UK introduced the UK Millionaire Raffle on November 7, 2009, an exciting addition that guarantees two millionaires every week on top of EuroMillions’ 13 prize categories. The raffle was created to compliment EuroMillions’ giant jackpots with each line purchased entering to win £1 million in the UK Millionaire Raffle, enabling EuroMillions to make upwards of four millionaires each week!
EuroMillions UK Rules
EuroMillions UK is identical to the EuroMillions lottery game played in the eight other countries with 13 prize categories in which it is offered with the added benefit of the UK Millionaire Raffle which automatically enters players for a chance to win £1 million.
For every line of numbers entered into the EuroMillions UK draw, players are issued a unique alpha-numerical code, printed on their lottery ticket. The nine-digit code is composed of a combination of three letters and six numbers, such as RCH135791. All of the codes distributed in the draw are entered into an Automated Draw Machine (ADM), which acts in place of the traditional raffle “hat”. The millions of unique combinations are mixed in the ADM, ensuring complete randomization and a quick selection. One of the automatically generated codes is selected after the EuroMillions winning numbers, ensuring that there is a £1 million winner in every draw.
As part of the consortium of EuroMillions participating countries, EuroMillions UK is played identically to EuroMillions. To enter EuroMillions UK, select five numbers from a guess range of 1-50 and two Lucky Star additional numbers between 1 and 11. Matching both Lucky Star additional numbers is necessary to win the jackpot prize and eight of the lottery’s twelve secondary prize categories.
Players can choose numbers manually (Natural Selection), use preselected numbers on the site (My Lucky Numbers) or prompt the computer to randomly select numbers (Quick Pick) to fill in 3, 4, or 5 lines. theLotter offers a Subscription or a Multi-Draw to ensure players never miss a draw while benefiting from great discounts!
Online lotto ticket purchase closes 3 hours prior to the drawings which occur every Tuesday and Friday evening, at 20:00 GMT. EuroMillions UK lottery results are available on theLotter.com at 22:00 GMT, the same day.
Customers can find their unique raffle number on the scanned EuroMillions UK ticket in their theLotter account. The winning raffle number for each draw will appear on the EuroMillions UK results page.
Winning the EuroMillions UK
To collect the EuroMillions UK jackpot prize, match the 5 main numbers and 2 Lucky Star additional numbers randomly selected in the draw. Players can win one of 13 prize divisions each draw by matching as few as two main numbers.
In order to win the UK Millionaire Raffle, players check the alpha-numeric code printed on their lottery ticket to see if the 9-character code matches the one selected in the raffle. If the three letters and six numbers match, the ticket is worth £1 million!
The EuroMillions starting jackpot is set at £12 million and can grow up to £4 million each rollover over the course of 12 consecutive draws, reaching towards its jackpot cap of £153 million. If the jackpot goes unclaimed for 2 draws after reaching £153 million, the prize is distributed to the secondary prize winners.
The odds of collecting the £1 million UK Millionaire Raffle prize depend on the number of raffle entries (line purchases) per draw, which can increase dramatically according to jackpot size. However, the impressive odds for winning the £1 million prize in a Tuesday draw are approximately 1 in 3,500,000 and 1: 9,200,000 for the popular Friday night draw.
EuroMillions and EuroMillions UK players can look forward to extra prizes in the holiday season. In addition, the EuroMillions family offers a semi-annual Super Draw, where the starting jackpot is raised to €100 million and continues to rollover until it is won.
EuroMillions’ biggest jackpots were £147.5 million, won in February and November 2006 and a top prize of £149 million, awarded in July 2011.
EuroMillions prize winners have 160 days to claim their tax-free, lump sum prizes.
