ABOUT SWEDEN - VIKING LOTTO
The Viking Lotto was Europe’s first multi-national lottery combining the forces of eight Nordic countries and offering players exciting jackpots and favourable winning odds, making this lotto a favorite in theSmart.
Viking Lotto History
The Viking Lotto’s first draw took place in March 1993 in Norsk Tipping, Norway. At the outset, the Viking Lotto represented the Scandinavian countries of Norway, Finland, Denmark, Iceland, and Sweden. Later, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania joined the draw and the Viking Lotto unified Europe’s northern countries with a shared transnational lottery.
The Viking Lotto’s popularity in Scandinavia contributes to the fast-paced nature of the lotto game, which experiences frequent rollovers The biggest Viking Lotto jackpot to date was claimed in 2010, a top prize worth € 15 Million.
Viking Lotto Rules
To play Viking Lotto, players choose six numbers from a guess range of 1-48. Two bonus numbers, called the Lucky Numbers, are drawn from the same drum as the regular guess set and are counted towards secondary prizes only. Players can choose to play 5 or 10 line entries or select a systematic form which produces all possible entry combinations of 8, 9, or 10 numbers and increases the chances of winning a prize.
When selecting numbers, players can choose to use their pre-selected numbers saved on theLotter.com (My Numbers), the random number generator (Quick Pick) or can manually select their numbers (Natural Selection). Subscription and Multi-Draw packages ensure that players never miss a draw and enjoy great discounts exclusively at theLotter.
Ticket sales on theLotter close approximately three hours prior to the draw. Viking Lotto draws take place in Norsk Tipping, Hamar in Norway on Wednesdays at 19:30 GMT. Viking Lotto results are broadcast on live television in Scandinavia and are available on theLotter at 20:30 GMT the same day.
Winning the Viking Lotto
To win the first prize and collect the jackpot, players must match all 6 numbers drawn in the 1-48 range. Matching the bonus ball and five of the regular number drawn entitles players to the second prize. The lottery’s favorable jackpot winning odds only increase throughout the secondary prize divisions, making 1 in 54 participants a winner.
Most Viking Lottery jackpots are valued between € 480,000 and €2.4 million, due to the lottery’s generous rollover rule, which adds unclaimed jackpot prizes to the prize funds of the next draw. Each of the six countries involved in the Viking Lotto have their own top jackpot. The record jackpot for a Viking Lottery ticket purchased in Denmark, € 6 Million, was claimed in August 2005 and is the largest first prize for the Viking Lotto to date.
All Viking Lottery prizes are distributed in a lump sum. Prizes below €20,000 must be claimed within 365 days of the win and prizes above €20,000 must be claimed within 3 months.
